Perhaps you should read "Stralight & Time" by Dr. Russell Humphreys. It explains how the universe could have the appearnce of being very old and the earth could still be very young. The basic premise is that God created using relativity.
Starlight and time would be a very interesting subject. The premise of the book is that the Earth is roughly near the center of the universe, and in a deep deep gravitational well, so that relativistic time dilation effects means that 10000 years pass on Earth while millions and even billions of years pass by out in the cosmos. This is very popular with young earth creationists, despite being trivially inconsistent with all available theory and evidence.
However, this is irrelevant for the example being considered here, which is within our own solar system. Humphreys does not propose that the effect makes any difference on that small local scale. Such extreme localised spacetime distortions would mightily screw up the orbits of asteroids.

According to Humphreys, where is the extreme gravitational field coming from? Earth's mass is nowhere near the total mass required to create such extreme gravity.
Good question. I think Humphreys simply proposes this extreme curvature of spacetime as an aspect of the created universe rather a distortion due to an actual massive object. But I'm not sure, since I don't have a copy and have not read it. But we are diverging from topic. This thread is completely unanswerable from a young Earth perspective; but I'd love to see someone try.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to read Starlight and Time (since you have it on your reading list) and post your own review in a new thread. This thread will now self destruct in...
