Hi Brian. Are you eating? If so what are you eating? Are you keeping food down?
Green tea is good, as is fresh carrot juice if you can get some at a health store. Light vegie soups are good. Vita C powder. Drink water and herbal teas, like peppermint, catnip, camomile, etc. If you live in a city and have a large health food center, often folks in the center can make recommendations based on what they've learned from customers, etc. Avoid pastries, milk products, meats except for maybe some broiled fish. Once you begin to recoup, brown rice is good with steamed vegies. If you eat, eat light and drink a lot. Get plenty of bed rest. DISCLAIMER: Consult your doctor, preferably a doctor who utilizes alternative wholistic treatments. They treat the body, not the symptoms. Most healt stores know who these are or you can search google for your area. The above is suggestions of things we do which work quite well for us. We use no antibiotics or drugs due to side effects and problems with them, but that's us and not to be construed to mean we are claiming to have a cure. We seldom ever get the flu. We try to eat natural foods void of white flour, white suger, etc so as to pevent disease. I will remember you in my prayers. God bless.

sleep, liquids. the flu is a virus and the only way to get it out is to flush it. once it's decided to lyse enough cells, your body will get a clue and kill it. so you have to empower your immune system. eat well, get rest and drink liquids. tea is good, it helps with the flushing.

Scotland makes some fine whisky, but IMHO nothing beats a fine Bourbon.
But just so Brian feels better and beats it. Aslan is not a Tame Lion

Give Nature a hand. Go to bed, laddie, and sweat it out.
Alternatively, Rum and Worcestershire sauce. No, you don`t drink it, you look at it and try to imagine how ill you will feel if you drink it.

Drink lots of liquids (especially fruit juices), get lots of rest and try to keep warm.
Avoid painkillers as much as possible - they reduce your temperature and actually make your illness last longer. Basically being really ill sucks so you'll want to make it last as short a time as possible; 'tis better to be iller for less time than less ill for longer.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.
I didnt have any bourbon around the house Jar, so I couldnt try that. Buz, I have been eating soup mostly, but I do normally have a healthy diet thanks to my health conscious partner. Jack, I was taking paracetamol, but stopped on your advice. I have been sleeping a lot, or trying anyway, it has been a while since I had one as bad as this. Cheers again. Brian.

HI Nighttrain,
I actually quite like rum, without the sauce of course. I have been drinking a lot of hot fruit drinks, not my usual tipple! I was hoping that someone would come up with an 'auld wimmin's' type of cure. Brian.

Actually, Brian, I was reading 'a Ride To Khiva' by Fred Burnaby, written circa 1880. He was a great traveller--Africa,Russia, and his travel pack always included Cockle`s Pills. He dispensed them wherever he went. Cured everything from spear attack, through fever to a sprained ankle. If they survive today, they might be the ant`s pants for your ague.

quote: The number one most effectlive thing you can do to avoid getting the flu is to wash your hands frequently, particularly if you live or work in a larger city where you come into contact with a lot of people, particularly lots of people who are coming and going from other places. Indeed, the worst flu bug I ever had I contracted after going to dinner to a tapas bar with a large group of people that included someone contaigous. Since it was tapas, we all shared plates. Ten out of 12 of us became ill; the two who didn't had gotten their flu shot that year. Good diet, avoiding dehydration, regular exercise, enough sleep, and a positive outlook are all important for a healthy immune system as well.

Hi Buz,
Still a bit under the weather. I had to get antibiotics from the doc as i have a slight chest infection now. Just feel a bit lethargic but I hope to go back to work on Monday. Thanks for your concern and advice. I'll be back fighting the good fight before you know it Cheers. Brian.

glad to hear you are doing better.
Now, DO take your full course of antibiotics, and DO start washing your hands more and drinking more water (and fewer pints ).
