Until now, I have always used AD. But, as a result of what Buzsaw has posted, I now recognize that I should henceforth use CE.
In using a common system of dates, we follow a societal convention. Such conventions are required to facilitate communication. Until now, I had used AD as part of that convention. But it has now been made clear that some people will try to impose their own ideological committments on others by foolishly insisting that the use of AD is some sort of acknowledgement.
Hereinafter, it is CE (the Common Era), as far as I am concerned.
