First off, the main reason there wasn't a throng out there the day that the Saddam statue came down is that there was still major combat going on all around Baghdad. No "real" people dared to go outside, much less stand in the middle of a bunch of US vehicles. Most of the few dozen people that were there somehow showed up in other pictures on magazine covers and such. Some people had said that these guys were hired by the US to jump around and scream pro-US slogans. There is much more meat to those claims now that the "fake news" programs made by the State Dept. and other departments have been outed.
