Re: words as clothing
That's how I feel as well.
A reasonable mastery of the basic grammar and vocabulary of one's own native tongue is required to communicate in an effective way.
Making many, many grammar and spelling errors indicates to me that,
1) you didn't or couldn't learn the rules of English in grade school, which may mean that you aren't very bright or don't work very hard at learning things,
which would seem to indicate...
2) you're too lazy to use the nearly instantaneous spelling and grammar checks that your computer provides.
IOW, you just sound kind of lazy and dumb.

Or maybe that some people are just better at math then English.
I know that some people are better at math than language.
Just as I need to ask for help and use a calculator because I am not the greatest in math, people who aren't as good at writing need to use the tools available to them to help.
But if you do not use the tools available and present many mistakes in your attempt at communication, it simply appears that you are lazy at best or uneducated at worst.
...which is what I said in my previous post.

I type things correctly and still people don't understand.
Well, that's the art of clear, precise and fluent articulation and manipulation of the written word.
It takes work and practice to do it well.

That is a valid spelling of that word, rat. In the British Isles.

Re: busted!
quote:
Really really I could care less, I understand what you say, if I don't I will ask you what you meant.
The clothing analogy is a good one; here, our writing is our clothing. How you spell and write indicates how much you care about the overall impression of your competency that you give off.
If you don't care about coming off as intelligent and competent and well-informed, then why should anyone else care about slogging through a post that is more difficult to read or understand?
Again, we are not talking about occasional spelling, syntax, grammar, or punctuation errors. We are talking about consistent carelessness.
If you don't care at all, why should I?

The bible is written very well, yet many people do not understand it's meaning.
It's written as well as anything put together by a committee and edited and copied many dozens of times can be.
It ain't no great piece of literature, that's for sure.
