Bovine Growth Hormone Potential Hazards in Milk

Unfortunately this is the cold reality of our foods safety. When the money is on the table, food safety becomes an obsolete and unnecessary detail. Edited by Agobot, : No reason given.

Wrong.
Dairy cow's milk composition has been altered by artificial selection because of what human's desire. Bwah!? How can it be wrong that artificial selection has altered dairy cow's milk when genetic enhancement has affected the milk's composition traits?
Getting more milk from every single cow doesn't make for a more healthy drink, It more than just getting more milk, its also getting different milk. This directly refutes your claim that milk's composition has nothing to do with what human's desire. I'm not claiming that it is healthier, just pointing out where you're wrong.

Are you saying that humans desire a more damaging and hazardous milk? Or is it just an unavoidable side effect that shows human's disregard for food safety?

"What is bovine growth hormone and is it in the milk I give my preschooler?
Bovine growth hormone, or bovine somatotropin (also called bGH, rbGH, bST, or bST), is given to cows to make them mature faster and produce more milk. The hormone is produced by cows' pituitary gland and an extra amino acid is attached before it's injected into dairy cows. The hormone was first used in 1993. In 2002 about 22 percent of dairy cows in the United States were injected with bGH. And by mid-2004 less than 11 percent of U.S. cows were being injected. Opposition groups are pushing for bGH to eventually be pulled off the market altogether. Unless the milk you buy is organic, or labeled "bGH-free," it may contain the hormone." Why is American milk banned in Europe?: http://www.consumersunion.org/food/bghny899.htm At least somebody in Europe is trying to pull the brakes on the wild, unrestrained Capitalism. This is ridiculous. Are you saying that humans desire a more damaging and hazardous milk? Or is it just an unavoidable side effect that shows human's disregard for food safety? I'd eat cow pies if they tasted good ” trust me, they don't. Most folks would eat whatever tasted good if it wasn't medium term, positively toxic, if that's what is around, and worry about it another day. Look at the As tainted water the bangladeshi are drinking. They make no Herculean effort to improve the quality, it's what they have and "eh"! Like them, I've got way too much to do to be wasting time on worrying about a possible, slightly elevated risk of something short of instant death. AbE: Unrestrained capitalism rules! A-OK! Lyx2no if everyone in the US thinks the way you do, it would seem i have wasted your time with this thread. I'd be sorry if that were the case.

Lyx2no if everyone in the US thinks the way you do, it would seem i have wasted your time with this thread. I'd be sorry if that were the case. For what its worth, I too drink milk because it is delicious. And I'm not even close to being convince, by this thread, that it is bad for me. So yeah, you pretty much wasted your time.

This directly refutes your claim that milk's composition has nothing to do with what human's desire I'm not saying that humans desire a more damaging and hazardous milk. Nor do I think it is just an unavoidable side effect that shows human's disregard for food safety. I don't even think that milk is un-safe. I think that men wanted cow's to produce more mile with either more or less fat, etc and they artificially selected (and probably genetically manipulated) cow's that produced the milk that they wanted.

Somehow I trust the conclusions of the EU commission to ban Bovine hormone treatment of cows more than we-do-anything-for-money FDA. I would slways side with the EU on the genetically modified foods as well, as human life is obvously not so precious over there. And these decisions are not easy to take - the EU commission was probably fully aware that there would possibly be retaliatory counter measures from the US administration and subsequent loss of billions of Euro. Wild, unrestrained capitalism has not brought me a computer but it can surely bring nasties like this: "USING AFRICANS AS 'GUINEA PIGS' The Nigerian government is taking on Pfizer, the world's biggest pharmaceutical company. It accuses the company of using a meningitis epidemic to test an unapproved drug on Nigerian children. Eleven children who participated in the tests died and others were left with disabilities." Using Africans as 'Guinea Pigs': Nigeria Takes On Pfizer over Controversial Drug Test - DER SPIEGEL OR THIS: Japan Again Bars U.S. Beef After Finding Banned Cattle "Japan, which prides itself on having the most stringent food safety standards in the world, stopped importing American beef in late 2003 after the discovery of mad cow disease in a dairy cow in Washington State. The cattle industry estimates that the Japanese ban cost it more than $3.1 billion in lost sales and lower prices in the last two years." Japan Again Bars U.S. Beef After Finding Banned Cattle Part - The New York Times OR THIS: Another huge demonstration demands South Korean president’s resignation "The rally was the latest in the virtually daily protests since Lee announced in April that his government was lifting a ban on American beef imports. The ban was imposed in 2003 after a case of Mad Cow Disease was discovered in the US.In regards to US beef imports, Korean trade negotiators had, prior to the demonstration, secured a “voluntary” undertaking from American exporters that they will not sell beef from cattle older than 30 months to South Korea. Younger cattle are less susceptible to contracting Mad Cow or Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE)." Edited by Agobot, : No reason given. Edited by Agobot, : No reason given. In every case of male breast cancer high levels of estrogen are found in the blood.
Heard of the pill Estroven? It is derived from a hormone-like substance in soy, but is similar enough to human estrogen to ward off symptoms of menopause. Would you recommend a man take a pill designed to ward off symptoms of menopause? Then why would a man or adolescent male eat soy or drink milk? Read here...http://search.mercola.com/Results.aspx?q=drinking%20milk&... Soy formula, given to infants(!!), is the formula of last resort... because of the estrogen-like substance that is in it. Read more here... http://articles.mercola.com/...mula-under-investigation.aspx There is no reason for a healthy individual to voluntarily take hormones, man or woman. Regarding your conspiracy theory remarks... Who do you trust for your information? Regulatory agency heads? That would be a big mistake. I look on the internet, but I also use information at government agencies and universities to see what they have to say. After 10 years of experience poring over Independent studies, University studies, FDA, USDA and EPA documents regarding our food supply I can tell you one thing for sure. If there is substantial money involved in something that a regulatory agency is responsible for or if a University is conducting a study for industry, it's nearly certain that someone's integrity has been compromised. Money talks. The higher in government, science or education you go the bigger the stakes, the larger the money pots. Heard about the Texas governor and Gardisil? Read here... Page not found | The Institute for Southern Studies You cannot rely on the government regulatory agencies to tell you something bad about milk because milk is a big money-maker. The industry has lobbyists who know how to bribe agency heads to get the regulations and the "facts" that they want. You also have a potentially large lawsuit liability should all the bad information about milk be supported by any agency of government or university funded study. Most University studies will similarly be influenced by funding dollars. How do you feel about the thimerosal controversy? Do you think that is a conspiracy theory too? If your answer is "Yes." try reviewing information at; Hi p v ca mui – M’t trang web mi s dng WordPress. If your answer is "No.", then you realize that the FDA and CDC along with all the big Medical Societies chimed in on the side of mercury in vaccines being safe in the 1990s and early 2000s. But today it is no longer allowed in vaccines. I have previously investigated milk because of the controversial things I had heard about it. After giving it up in 1999 I experienced numerous improvements in my health. Some coming within a few months of giving milk up. To see you viciously lash out at someone reporting that milk has bad things in it shows me that you didn't look into it yourself before opening your mouth. A little investigation on your part would have enlightened you. You would have at least been made aware that intelligent well-meaning people are genuinely concerned about milk consumption. If you decided to continue consuming milk I would assume you would have equally intelligent arguments supporting that decision. Since I saw no facts on your part I have to assume you merely assumed... You owe Agobot a BIG apology. Michael

see, here's the problem. I've been drinking milk for twenty (almost twenty-one) years. I used to down anywhere from a gallon to two gallons a month. If I had the money, I would be drinking more than a gallon per month.
Not only do I consume milk, I consume multiple cheeses, butter, yogurt, whipped cream, but I avidly avoid filmjolk. I've never had a broken bone. No cavities (and that's with a diet high in sugar and not enough brushing). I don't have cancer. I hardly ever get sick (except for when I eat swedish mayo, oddly enough). My bmi is 22. I'm as healthy as they come (which means there's a heart attack in my future). After drinking milk for so long shouldn't I be having some problems by now? Oh yeah, I also got vaccinated when I was young--no problems here. If milk is such a money-maker, why does the Swedish government subsiduze milk? Why do milk companies have to launch an extensive advertising campaign to get people to drink milk? It's not like I see any commercials for cheddar cheese. All this stuff sounds just like the BPa and teflon scare. It's all just a bunch of loons who don't know when to shut up. Quit crying wolf and save it for the real stuff--you know, about how the aliens are controlling the US government.

Subbie writes: And I asked so nicely that you respond with evidence. *sigh* Oh well. Here is a study of the effects of Bovine Growth Hormone(BGH) that's banned in the EU on mice: "The results of this study indicate that puberty is advancedin transgenic female mice that overexpress bGH. Although the 3-day advance appears small, it represents 10% of the postnatal life of the animal at this stage of development. The increase in body size, which is already obvious at that time, raises the possibility that the acceleration in sexual maturation may be due not to a direct action of GH on the reproductive axis but rather to increased body size. Correlation of puberty with attainment of a particular body weight has been reported in numerous studies [36]. However, it should be noted that transgenic PEPCK.bGH females reached sexual maturation at a body weight significantly greater than, rather than equivalent to, the body weight of normal mice at the time of vaginal opening."
