a good example
Some do. If the bible was found to be correct in its telling of history. And genetics was to confirm that we were all from 8 common {human} ancestors then wouldn't you have to recalibrate your measuring rods to take into account a global flood?
That is actually a GREAT example of how to examine a question.
If the flood were correct then there would be a genetic marker in every single species pointing to a bottle neck at a common point in time. It would be a neon billboard sized flag that EVERY geneticist would see.
However we have looked, and no such bottleneck marker has been found.
The conclusion then MUST be that pending future discoveries no such single bottle neck event happened.

Re: The Belief Stops Here
Well many of us Christians have no problems with Evolution, so there is no anti-god Science. What it may be is anti Cult of Christian Ignorance.

Re: The Belief Stops Here
All I can say is this - I am not willing to trade my soul in for a test tube.
Fortunately that is not your problem. The only threat to your soul is the act of hubris involved in continuing no deny God's will that you actually use the brain She gave you.
Science cannot fathom the processes that God used to create the earth... so it says to those that believe He did, that they are crazy. That its perspective, math, and methods are rock solid, complete, and beyond refute.
Nonsense and a Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
Science shows us "How God Did It!" To deny the evidence God left us is to limit God.
Come Judgement Day it will be the Biblical Creationists that get to join the Goats when Jesus tells them "'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."

Re: The Belief Stops Here
Sorry but ID is not just piss poor science, it is even worse theology. As a Christian I can tell you that the current ID movement makes god Inept, Incompetent, Idiotic, Ignorant, Ineffective and Illogical.
EVO is a religion taught in our schools - it preaches that religion has no place in reality. I say this becuase, again, EVO is not just for EVO, EVO groups OPPOSE ID.
And, as a Christian, I say you are absolutely wrong. Evolution is not a religion in any shape or form. However, thank GOD folk oppose ID. It is nothing but the latest lie of the Creationists.

Towards the topic
Evolution Happens. But Ape to Man did not.
So why do you have a problem there?
All of the evidence shows that humans and the modern apes descended from a common ancestor, something that had not yet evolved into what we see today and that most likely, humans and chimps split fairly recently.
What prevents you from connecting the evidence for that (genetic, morphological) with the conclusion that we descended from an earlier primate?

Re: Towards the topic
Well, here are the dots.
The genetics show that humans and chimps are related. We also find a series of fossils leading back to predecessors of both.
And remember, what we are talking about are not modern ape to modern man, but something different from either leading to both. Of course, man is an ape, both you and the chimp are first cousin primates.
But that is not the issue or question.
The question is, "What is it about man and ape both being descended from a common ancestor bothers you?"

Re: Towards the topic
Why is it that the EVO charts in the textbooks indicate an ape evolving into a man.
Is this the chart you are talking about?
If so, the answer is simple. This is one of the lies that Biblical Christians create to con you. That is NOT a scientific chart at all, but rather the typical cartoon that Creationists palm off as though it were real.
If you get in a high school that uses charts like that, run away. Get out. Go to a different school.

Re: Rahvin: ignorant or deluded?
Why would Christians support the same origins theory that all Atheists support?
Because they are honest maybe?
Because that is the only possible conclusion based on the evidence?
Because "To reject this truth or to treat it as “one theory among others” is to deliberately embrace scientific ignorance and transmit such ignorance to our children."

Re: Towards the topic
FYI - the most important take-away from this was how the EVO got those single path ape to man images to appear all over "high schools" and zoo murals. I wonder what the intention of the EVO was there...of course it was not to meddle with the Christian worldview...and now the EVO folks in here are saying that is not even a fair representation of the ape to man argument...but at least we planted the doubt in the heads of high schooler and those kids that see the images on the zoo walls....
The only museums where you see that diagram is in the phony sideshows called "Creation Museums."

Re: Towards the topic
jar....those charts ARE THE most common image the EVOs have planted...you need to get out more.... or read more books...or visit zoos. Call your marketing folks...I'm not making this stuff up.
You are confusing the source. Evolution Scientists did not create those images. Those are not scientific charts, they are cartoons.
I don't doubt that they may well be the thing folk notice, but that is simply a matter of ignorance. That is not how science teaches the descent.
A scientific chart will show where the questions lie, where we are unsure, where questions remain. It will also include minor information like names and identification. Something like this.
Part of the problem IS ignorance in the general populus. They don't have a clue what the Theory of Evolution actually says.
So the question is "What is there about the evolution of modern man and the other modern apes from some earlier ancestor that you find hard to accept?"
