Johnny Cash I'm afraid. I was a skinhead in Depeche M days. If anyone had tried to talk to me about Jesus I would have probably nutted them.

Christian theology was the perspective that Larni asked for. Christians being thrown to lions is not a theology *cough*semantics*cough* Are you saying that you deliberately gave him a bad interpretation of his dream just because of one word he used? What you should have said was, "It isn't strictly theology, but...."
Defence was the term I used. If you want to get semantic, "protect" was the term you used:
quote: You expect people to take your theology and your dreamology seriously when you can't even quote yourself accurately?
Standing is inactive defence, crawling is very active. Somehow, Jesus crawling on his belly to protect the church is not a very appealing image either. Whole platoons of belly-crawling Jesuses is not an improvement. By the way, does "crawling on his belly" remind you of anything?
quote: Is the church under attack or not. I would say yes. At least at EvC. The church is under attack by inerrantists and dogmatists, but that's probably another topic. What I'm trying to show here is that the interpretation of dreams can produce any kind of mumbo-jumbo, as your example illustrates. The result tells us more about the interpreter than it does about the dreamer. Help scientific research in your spare time. No cost. No obligation. Join the World Community Grid with Team EvC

Me too. The Lord promises that he will restore the (unbelieving) years the locusts have swallowed up. He did in many ways for me. But not in that department alas

So very very true.
Dream interpretation is on the same hokey floor as tea leaves, astrology and tarot.

I had the impression I was her prey Assuming we can assume the Lion/Jesus connection at this point some things to note which may illuminate our pop psychology. In case you haven't got one...
A well laid out online Bible 1) The process of God making Christians is pictured in the Bible as you being crucified. Put to death. The 'old man', the spiritually dead one, is done away with. The necessity for this happening is also given below. The start of Romans 7 uses illustrations from marriage to elaborate on this idea of how one is freed from being subject to The Law which says 'do this' 'do that'.
quote: ...freed from sin. Sin being Law breaking. Free from the addiction to sin I have spoken of before. "If the Son sets you free (from The Law) you will be free indeed" 2) A person can only inhabit one of two states. 'In Adam' (we are all born that way) or 'in Christ' (old man is put to death - and immediately we are reborn and placed (by God) into Christ - all part of the same saving process that God applies). You would be in him. Just like you would be were you eaten by a lion. This sounds like you would not be you anymore - being consumed like that. But it is either be consumed like that or remain in the belly of Adam. A person who is captive to sin is not free. Freedom is an illusion. We are slaves/servants/sons either of Satan or God. No other options possible.
quote: The Law of sin and death = the law of God that says "Do this" "Don't do that". The one we cannot ever keep. We are freed from subjection to this law and become subject to a law we can keep. He enables us to keep it. And in an irresistable way. Love for him means we want to do things his way. 3) Being consumed by this Lion may well involve pain. That pain might be the torture of a search which takes you down one blind alley after the other. It may involve being broken. It may, as it does in the case of alcholics who find their strength in their "higher power" - require total devastation. The process of crucifixion can be excruciating if one lets themselves be crucified. One possible experience may be the inner turmoil that Paul describes here of a man on the point of salvation:
quote: It can be this way, it can be dozens of ways that differ in detail from this. Each arrives with their own testimony. This one is similar to my own. Then I was saved and could (and still do) say the very next sentence of this passage:
quote: 4) And it would have to be a lioness! The one whose characteristic is to act out of concern for her offspring (-to-be).
Larni earlier writes: life, death and rebirth, sacrifice, forgiveness,
iano writes: life: it was there in the distance. In the church. Not yet seen as life but then again there is a continuum on the road to salvation. Next dream perhaps Next dream indeed! It didn't take long. The above is life for you Larni. First you have to die however. Its worth it. Well worth it. Edited by iano, : No reason given. Edited by iano, : No reason given.

As I mentioned in a earlier post, the interpretation tells more about the interpreter than the dreamer.
