Re: Judaism out, let's add Christianity
So, now that you have shown Judaism to be repulsive and not recommended,
Let's be a little careful here. Nobody showed anything to be repulsive. If you find it repulsive, fine, but let's be careful to speak for ourselves and not for others.
I think what's being shown here is that scientific knowledge is useful in every day life and can augment religious beliefs. If you're making a false dichotomy between "religion and empirical knowledge" then yeah, you're going to reject all religions when discussing which thing will help you solve problems in this world.
That never seemed like the interesting discussion to me.
Ben

No matter how you slice it, a picture of a rabbi sucking a babies penis is proof positive that tradtion sucks.
I think the fact that he baby died due to a failure to worry about herpes transmission is what sucked, not anything having to do with sucking blood from a penis. I find it sad that you're focused on something so small and cultural, rather than something ... bigger.
Like death.
Tradition doesn't suck. Culture doesn't suck. Failure to balance thinking and practice sucks. Failure to accept others sucks. Creating issues through intolerance sucks.
Lucky for you, I think intolerance is an important part of culture itself. So while you try to laugh at culture and tradition, it's actually the thing supporting your position. A real-life contradiction--culture and tradition truly do suck, but is what allows you to even realize that it does suck. And culture is an essential part of being human.
In other words, we all suck. What of it?
Take it what ever way you want, but at least I learned a few things about a few of you, LMAO.
Yeah, way to use the death of another to make your funny point. Real fucking funny.
Take a step outside yourself, turn around and round. Take a look at who you are. Pretty scary.

To choose culture, or religion (they're part of each other in my eyes), you have to define what it is that you want. What is the goal.
What is the goal, RR? What should be maximized and protected, and what can be sacrificed to accomplish that?
I guess that choice is arbitrary.
Ben
P.S. holmes, I may be using the word "culture" improperly here again. I can't remember a better word.
