violation of known laws
The suggestion to Eltonian to post here was so it could be discussed whether more respect should be shown toward Christian beliefs in the religious forums
percy, there are a lot of christians here who don't cause problems. walking into a religious forum and calling for the exclusion and condemnation of homosexuals is about like walking into in the science ones and claiming that people don't really understand why evolution has no proof.
-- it warrants debate, because it's a bit of a silly assertion to those who know better. "then jesus is a bigot" is actually the logical conclusion of his completely unfounded assertion that jesus spoke against homosexuality (meaning in leviticus, which is not by jesus).
we should not be required to respect or indeed tolerate hypocrisy that is completely against the religion itself, let alone common sense, and let alone ones that insult and condemn others. his comments are in violation of known BIBLICAL laws:
quote:
Luk 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
quote:
Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
quote:
Lev 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I [am] the LORD.
quote:
Mat 19:19 Honour thy father and [thy] mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
quote:
Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
why should we treat this any different than someone proposing things in violation of the laws of physics?

I'd sure like to see your criteria adopted in the religious forums. Suggesting that Jesus might be gay or calling him a bigot ought to be a good reason to eject someone from a thread there.

Equality
Amen to that, Faith.

calling jesus a bigot
calling [Jesus] a bigot ought to be a good reason to eject someone from a thread there.
sure, faith, i agree. but asserting that jesus condemned people for homosexuality -- or anything -- is calling jesus a bigot.

Re: calling jesus a bigot
I'm trying to stay out of the debate here, arach, as it doesn't belong on this thread. I could say plenty on the subject in the right place however. I agree with Eltonian James that since Jesus is Jehovah He condemned homosexuality, and calling that bigotry is anti-Christian. And I disagree with your interpretation of "judge not lest ye be judged."

One thing I've noticed lately
There are too many new topics, and too many political topics.
I think Admin shouuld reject more topics.
Do you want to turn it into a political forum?
Also, there are topics that should be rejected on the grounds of insanity, such as "hyper-evolution in the Bible."
Historical topics are great because one can actually provide evidence.
I wish there were more of those.

New Topic Needed?
There are a number of posts in here that deserve a response but it has already been noted that this is not the proper forum for continued discussion. Would it be possible to begin a new topic thread in which this discussion could continue? It has apparently already been decided that my "Are you qualified" beginning post was not sufficient enough to begin a new thread. Any suggestions on how to keep this discussion alive will be greatly appreciated.

Re: New Topic Needed?
propose a topic to the pnt forum, and try to keep it somewhat academic or philosophical -- not ranting. try to avoid unfounded or commonly debates subject maters, because we've probably addressed it before.
it doesn't make a good impression to come on here first thing and take a pot-shot at evolution with a completely biased and baseless (and factually incorrect) statement, and then make negative comments about an organization that's trying to promote the teachings of jesus as far as compassion with completely dogmatic fundamentalist and SELETIVE reading of the bible -- and THEN complain that the people here just don't know their bibles well enough.
because many of us do.
if you would like to debate these particular assertions -- such as "jesus wrote the bible" some of us other bible nuts around here would be more than happy to debate it with you. if you'd like to debate the particulars of homosexuality and the law in terms of christ as a new covenant and how we are to treat people, many of us would be more than happy to debate that too.

Misrepresenting my post
On this thread, and others, various people have accused me of calling Jesus a bigot, this is a misrepresentation on what I actually posted.
My post has been quoted by at least three members here who have all claimed that I called Jesus a bigot, however, they appear to have failed to see the question mark at the end of my 'statement'.
James made the following statement "Simply acknowledging that sin is sin does not make one a bigot, unless you also think Jesus was a bigot."
My reply to his post was "What makes you think Jesus wasn't a bigot?"
There is a question mark at the end of that sentence, and is a valid question.
I was assuming that James believes that Jesus wasn't/isn't a bigot and I am interested in how he comes to this conclusion.
So, I would be obliged if a mod can politely request that all members who have misrepresented my post be a little more careful with their reading of my posts. In particular, pay attention to question marks.
Cheers.
Brian.

Re: ARE YOU QUALIFIED?
What quaifications do you think people should have before they are allowed to comment on the Bible?
What qualifications do you have in regard to discussing the Bible?
Cheers.
Brian.
