I enjoyed Constantine, but I admit I've never read Hellblazer. I'm sure that makes a big difference. The only issue I had was their choice of actor to play John. Don't get me wrong, I like looking at Keanu, but I don't think anyone can honestly say he is a good actor. He is very wooden. Ever since Bill and Ted, he has been trying to distance himself from that persona and has ended up with only one character in his collection. That said, I tend to like many of the movies he is in.

I've heard of Hellblazer, that site didn't give much information, are they making a movie or just another series of comics?
True, Keanu is a poor actor. However, he is casted in amazing movies. If you took a really good actor and casted them in these movies they would probably be monumental, well besides the matrix, which in fact called for a detached, "wooden" character to play the role of Neo.

I think Hellbalzer is good, very good. Admittedly the quality is quite variable, and some of the gags are rather British, but I still enjoyed it. I'm a bit torn as to whether to see it, now, just to know how much the kept and how much they changed. And I agree, it may only be poor if you already have expectations, and thats not always valid.
quote: A movie conversion. But everyone I know who knows the comics went BLEH when they heard he has a magic shotgun. I don't think he was ever armed in the comics - very British. This message has been edited by contracycle, 02-24-2005 11:40 AM

is the movie title Hellblazer? I couldn't find it on movies.com.
Anyone hear about the Da Vinci Code becoming a movie, I suppose that will be really good. I also heard speculations that the Da Vinci Code was or rather Dan Browns influence was based on another novel, I can't remember the novel's title I might go digging in Amazon to try to find it. If you know it let me know, it will save me time.

The movie being discussed is Constantine based on the graphic novel Hellblazer.

The comics have been going for about 20 years and are very dark, it is currently upto issue 204 (on a monthly schedule). JC is blond from liverpool and is modeled on Sting @ 1984.

The way he delivered the line "Today I caught my first tube, sir" ? That was a tour de force of understated acting. NOTHING wooden about it. The delivery of that single line brought the character of a hip young FBI undercover agent playing a surfer/bank robber to life. BTW my favorite line in Prophecy (paraphrasing) was when the ex-priest says "Angels were the tools of destruction and death all throughout the bible. When you really think about it, would you ever want to meet one?"

Well now, I should have made a point of NOT meaning Point Break.
Everyone knows what a tour de force that was. Keanu's role was only superseded by Patrick's Asgara "Embrace the pain, spank your inner moppet, whatever....but get over it" select * from USERS where CLUE > 0 http://asgarasworld.bravepages.comhttp://perditionsgate.bravepages.com

quote: I love both your choices. Mine would be The Ruling Class, one of my favorite British comedies. Peter O'Toole plays a member of the nobility who thinks he's Jesus Christ. Alastair Sim plays his bishop, a character torn between his fear of going to hell for treating a noble with disrespect and his fear of going to hell for blaspheming the Christ by playing along with O'Toole's madness. You could call the picture a musical, but the musical numbers always pop up at the most inappropriate times and seldom last more than a minute. The one exception is the hilarious set-piece done to the drinking song from La Traviata, during which Jesus falls in love with the Lady of the Camilias. Alastair Sim's bishop is later called upon to marry the pair in what has to be one of the funniest weddings ever conceived or filmed. The OP asked for thrillers, so I thought I'd mention that - very unexpectedly - The Ruling Class suddenly becomes a thriller toward the end. Keep America Safe AND Free!

The Da Vinci Code (2006) - IMDb
It is in pre production. Filming to start in May. I haven't a clue as to when release would be. For the xmas season or summer block buster time '06? ABE Opps I should read my own link: there is a clue for 2006 (in big red letters) This message has been edited by NosyNed, 02-27-2005 22:31 AM

Love The Ruling Class and while we're on the British films there is what I think is one of Peter Seller's greatest, Being There.

Re watched Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within recently and was reminded of it’s fairly heavy theological frame, albeit dealing with ‘Gaia theory’ and all that .
A much maligned film in my book. Though they really should have made Advent Children first then do the Sci-Fi epic second.
