Well, I've been banned
from TO. The specific reason was that I said ID was silly. The interesting thing is that after banning me Terry supposedly posted a message explaining why. Of course, since I was banned, I couldn't get in to see or respond to the message.
From what I've been able to gather, the reason was that I attacked another's (read Terry) beliefs. My personal opinion is that religious beliefs are of the individual, and I may disagree with someone's religious beliefs but try not to call them silly. But when we move into the world of science, then beliefs, theories, hypotheses are fair game. If they can be show incorrect then it's everyones duty to point out the flaws.
If I had simply said ID was silly without supporting my position I'd say Terry had been right. Since I did support my position I think Terry screwed up.

One key thing to note is that these people tend to take the exact same arguments and try them on every available medium. These people post the same discussions on board after board. They recieve the same results at each board and their premise is shot down royally. They then use those results to support their claims, that the simple fact there are those who disagree proves the correctness of their claim.
It's a win-win situation for them. If they post and no one responds then their allegations are correct since unchallenged. If their allegations are challenged then those challengers are atheists and crazy (and unamerican to boot) and persecuting them for their beliefs. They have their world and seem quite comfortable therein. They hear the voices and those of us who are hearing challenged simply don't understand.

Probably should go in another thread, but ...
Arachnophilia writes:
what if you're a christian and reject the biblical god?
Is there a difference between rejecting the Biblical GOD and rejecting the Biblical descriptions of GOD?
If you look at some of the tales in the Bible and say, "Nope, those are not true descriptions but rather plot devices used to present a moral or message.", is that rejecting the GOD of the Bible or simply placing the stories in context?

plus c'est la meme chose, plus ca change
It's really not that different. There is more opportunity these days, and bigger audiences mean more pockets to pick, but Billy Sunday would feel right at home, from stealing bases to stealing souls. And it was this way in Jesus day as well.
The only problem is that tv and the internet can be emotive mediums, the perfect media for snake-oil salesmen. The rest is business as usual.
There have always been exclusionist, bigots, hate-mongers, fear-mongers. They were the same whether it was in a crowd on the banks of the Jordan River, under the Spanish Moss hanging from the Live Oak in Mississippi or in a Crystal Palace before the cameras.
