Re: Repeating history
In the long run we don't have to worry, Democrat woman kill their offspring at a rate of three times that of Republican woman. In
the end we will out populate them.
Your talking about young people who once they grow up look past the TV to see the real world. Who are comfortable enough with technology and globalism to look past their nose to see what is in the best interest for everybody and who vote for Obama over McCain by > 20 points?
Even if your rediculous statistic was true (its not), the evidence seems to indicate that Republican parents are breeding Democratic voters.

Re: Repeating history
The mandate is very important because that is what will keep the conservative democrats in line, especially southern conservative democrats. He may have some trouble on social issues but anyone who has been paying attention noticed early on that Obama wasn't strong on liberal social issues anyway.
The important thing socially will be the protection of the courts.
At any rate, it looks like we are getting some idea of how Obama is going to govern. Rham Emanuel will be his Chief of Staff which means Obama is going to play hard ball.

Re: Important Question To Answer Here
I am not sure, but I think you can donate to certain advocacy groups. So in the case of a bet with buz you could donate a paycheck to Freedoms Watch which is about as fascist, neo-conservative as you can get.

Re: Obama's First Act To Aid Global Terror
If you consider water boarding ... for the purpose of obtaining intelligence info so as to protect the US from folks like these who's goal is to destroy America and other civilizations by terror as torture, yes I Do WAMT these people to be tortured and kept in jail without trial.
You put water boarding in with all those other practices but do you realize that it can be lethal?
What is your position on US citizens being subjected to such things?

Re: Obama's First Act To Aid Global Terror
You do realize that I was quoting Buz right?
I think he is particularly wrong on this issue. More wrong than he normally is. Believing in voodoo, creationism, alt-med, etc is less dangerous than thinking that Gitmo is actually an OKAY place for the US to have.

Expectations based on actual news...
Seems like Obama has been in the news talking a lot about a ~1 trillion dollar public works project.
You can also tell from his pick for Secretary of HHS that he plans on trying to move very quickly on universal healthcare and spending his early political capital on that.
IMO the univeral healthcare is something that absolutly needs to happen. If you want to help out the auto industry you can forget about giving them a loan if you are instead going to remove the burden of legacy and current health care costs. We are one of the only industrialized nations that still thinks health care belongs in the free market. In the mean time, our companies are trying to compete with foreign peers who do not have to bear the burden of health care for their employees. We see the results directly, and it is long past time that this changes.

Progressives lack of solidarity
Okay, perhaps we should move back to the topic. Seems that Obama is actually going to keep Gates as secretary of defense. what doom does this spell for the US, oh great prophet Buz? Or is Obama now a republican in sheep's skin?
It seems like this is getting all the netroots and progressive outlets all prickled, in addition to some of Obama's other picks. What I worry about a little bit is that progressives (and I consider myself one) are already starting to bitch that Obama isn't liberal enough and that if he doesn't use his initial political capital on liberal social issues then he is not a "real" progressive president.
I voted for Obama because he is also a pragmatist and a student of history. Bill Clinton took up the issue of Don't Ask Don't Tell right away and he got eviscerated for it.
Gates was asked to stay to provide continuity and to not cause drama over issues that are less important.
What might we loose if he went right away and raised an ideological fight over something like DOMA or FOCA? Would we not get a progressive tax? Would we not get Employee Free Choice? Would we not have a New New Deal? Would we miss our opportunity to build a green manufacturing sector of our economy?
Those are the important things that need to happen first and then after 2010 when we knock off a few more Republicans out of the Senate we can get to the other things without having to deal with the inconvienence of fillibusters. The progressive economic policies need to be implemented immediatly so that their effects can be felt before the 2012 election. We will have way too many Democratic congress seats to defend by then and Republicans will still use fearmongering to bring out the worst in people so we cannot take an Obama 8-year term for granted. We have to fight for it every single day even now.

Re: Gates & Stealth
to placate roughly 50% of us Americans who believe Obama is bad for America.
Obama's favorability rating is over 70% and his unfavorability rating is under 25%.
Your 50% is pulled straight out of your ass.
