I think I remember reading that only 3 Cat 5 storms have hit the U.S. since they started recording hurricanes. Andrew was the last one, I believe.
I've always heard that the worst that could possibly happen would be for a Cat 5 to hit New Orleans or the New York area. It's looking like one of those scenarios is about to happen. Unless it loses strength or misses it by more than 40 or so miles, this is a mega-disaster for NO.
Definitely worrisome.

Don't forget that many people just didn't have the money to go anywhere.
For some people, their only option would have been to walk miles to safety and with young children, that's about impossible.
Maybe next time, the city could pay the bus system to ferry people to shelters. It breaks my heart to see how the poor continually pay the ultimate price.

No apologies necessary. I didn't want to get into an argument about something I was not entirely sure about. I had not heard of any organized evacuation assistance to the poor, but I wasn't positive.
I'm stunned as well.
