It's a matter of choice
We all choose what we want to believe. Everybody here at one time or another has seen strange shadows, felt deep emotions and stuff of that spiritual nature. Some of us interpret it as something spiritual and others see it as a figment of our imagination. You asked the question of why evolutionist/atheists believe in what they believe. Its simple - God gave them the right to believe in whatever they want to believe. Its called freedom of choice, something that we Christians have to respect because if we don't we go against our God the same one that gave them a choice. That's somethng that historic christians in the past didn't respect when they killed those that didnt want to convert to Christianity. They went against the same God they were preaching when they committed those horrible acts. Freedom of choice is number one in Gods list. Your desicions says whats in heart. Always remeber that God looks at the hearts of men. He gives you the choice to follow Him or reject Him because he wants to see whats in your heart. Atheists and Theists believe the way they do simply because they want to.

I must disagree on the strange shadows and spiritual nature stuff.I do agree that I have felt deep emotions but how is this a mystery since it is our brains that produce the emotions we feel.
There are emotions or feelings that I consider spiritual. Love for example is one of them. I don't believe the idea that love is our brain finding a way for our body to reproduce because we all know that we don't need to be in love to reproduce. So I guess my question is: What's the purpose of our brain creating the idea of love? There apparently no need for it.

It is far more likely that god is an invention of wishful thinking to help deal with the hard actualities of life than it is an actual entity
So you are basically saying that the history of the jews is also "an invention of wishful thinking" and that a person named Jesus who made one of the biggest impacts in history is also "an invention of wishful thinking" It it was an invention of our imagination why do we divide time in BC and AC
sidelined writes:
So how would you know this to be so? Are you privy to knowing what god thinks or looks at? Indeed can you even explain what you mean by "the hearts of men"? I really would like to hear what you have to say on this.
1 Samuel 16:7 everything you need to know is here.

Love plays a very important part of insuring the surivival of our species. Man evolved as a social animal, and love insured that mothers will take care of their children, and fathers take care of mothers and children.
yeah yeah yeah But what is love?

Mmmm, not exactly.
I can see no other rational alternative.
It all comes down to what is rational to you and what is rational to me.
