Correct me if I am wrong, but I always thought that the whole concept of the 'devil' came from Babylonian mythology as well as the concept of hell. Which in turn was filtered down to the early Israelites. Which in turn was recorded in the bible. I guess I have much to learn.

I do not believe such a entity exist other than in our mythology and imagination, that is my own personal opinion. St. Thomas Aquinas wrote that the punishment for sin is the attachment to the sin. I tend to agree with him

Well I was able to read the first post, but unfortunatley not skilled enough to understand it. I get the impression you are a refering to Revelations written by the prophet John in the New Testament.
The Book that was almost not cannonized by the Holy Roman church due to its grave message and violence. The Book that many lunatics refer to when predicting the end of the world. Like when Rome destroyed the Jewish temples. or when Hitler exterminated the Jews, Or when Dr. Miller in the 1800's predicted the end. Or when Ronald Reagan became president because he had 6 letters in both names. Or in Waco Tx Branch Davidian Complex, Or when the year 2000 hit. Every single time the END was predicted NOTHING happened.
I wonder why that is? Could it be because the book of Revelations is just mythology? Or could it be the devil is just misleading us to believe that. Well I dont believe in the devil so I am gonna say the book of Revelations is CA-CA. It was CA-CA then and it is CA-CA now. And any "the end is now!!"
