The answer is #3. Einstein proved that gravity is caused from immense objects "weighing down" space-time. Such as a really fat guy sitting in the middle of a trampoline, and the trampoline fabric being space-time. This idea lead him to prove that light bends as well, as light is something that travels through space-time.
