The same thing that causes Aussies to sound like Aussies, Brits to sound like Brits, and Hillbillies to sound like Hillbillies.
Because their parents spoke 'gay'?

Re: some odds and ends
I'm not sure why homophobes like Faith feel the need to explain everything, ...
Is that a problem?
If so, why? And is it only a problem when 'homophobes' 'need to explain everything'? If non-'homophobes' seek the same explanations, is that okay?

Re: some odds and ends
It's a problem for both sides to come up with an explanation.
Why?

Re: some odds and ends
All I'm saying is we should all refrain from trying to come up with explanations for what we observe.
Really; this statement just floors me.

Re: some odds and ends
Please go back and reread my previous posts where I suggested we leave these things to experts that have done proper investigative work on the respective topic.
Do you think that makes it better?

Re: some odds and ends
You should look up the definition of 'loaded question'.

That would be valleyspeak, ...
Yes.
And Valleyspeak is another of the many registers stereotypically associated with 'gay speech'.
For evidence that this stereotypical association exists, just google it.
... something completely different.
Not entirely, no. As anglagard's daughter pointed out, the rising intonation of Valleyspeak is quite commonly associated with 'gay speech' - at least as far as stereotypes go.

So "gay speech" is different things to different people.
Obviously.
I wonder what sounding gay actually means to Faith.
Ask her.
