So-called "freedom" issues & socialism
quote:
think at EvC we'll probably find that most people would prefer Bernie which is vastly better than many of the other candidates. However, I really don't like his economic policies and militarily he seems nave. Putin would walk all over him.
Back in 2009, Canada spent about $3000 per person on health care (I think the government spent around $2500 of it and the people around $500 out of pocket) while Americans had to spend many times that just on premiums. And what did the "premium" buy. A bureaucratic health-care monstrosity which makes it difficult to know which doctors and facilities are in the "network" of "covered" services. Nevermind the high deductibles. Nevermind that is could cost you $80,000 if your appendix bursts (Rowland Martin, formerly of CNN, had an appendix burst in 2000 and that is what it cost him) when you are in-between jobs and switching insurance. Don't quit your job in the good ole free USA! Don't move from one state to the next in the good ole "land of the free" USA.
In (evil) socialist Canada, you can see whatever doctor you want and go to whatever facility you want. You can move freely. You can quit your job and switch jobs. No paperwork, no b.s. Always covered no matter what. And it costs the government and businesses very little.
The Republicans keep talking about rehashed economic policies and how we will magically see "4%" growth. Bernie Sanders and his health care plan might just create enough of a pro-business environment so we can see growth inch toward 4%.However, I'm not sure if his plan is funded by a general income tax or a payroll tax (the former would be good for business, the latter would discourage job hiring).
quote:
But at least he's open about it! He's the only American socialist to be honest about his position. That, if nothing else, earns some respect in my book considering how many other Democrats have tried valiantly to hide it all costs.
I am more interested in freedom than "socialist" labels. Like freedom to buy a cheap plot of land (in say Houston) and (here is the rub) to pitch a tent on it to live. That freedom doesn't exist. Freedom to build a cheap shack on your own land? Not in the good ole "free" USA. Freedom to buy a large broken down old van and have it towed to your "own property" to sleep in? Nope!
This country isn't a beacon of freedom. Let's stop pretending that it is.

Bernie Sanders education plan.
He will tax wall street "speculative" trades so that everybody (regardless of what their parents make) can have a free public college education. It sounds like there will be little to no paperwork hassles and requirements, exceptions, disqualifications.
I haven't read his plan but I wonder if he excludes those evil "immigrants" (the political climate might require such a disqualification). It would be ironic because something like 60% of our doctors are sucked from the rest of the world, and Americans still feel that there is a "shortage" of doctors (I'm sure there is).
How can any politician be proud of our education system when we can't even produce half of our doctors?
Sanders plan might be the most economical way to attempt to remedy that and many other problems.

Something interesting about Hillary.
There has been one issue that I possibly love about her, but wasn't 100% sure how real it was.
Let me explain (this is all going by memory so forgive errors). There was something interesting that happened after Bill Clinton won in 1992. Larry Rockefeller approached him (March 23 1993 I think) with a desire to have the government start to look at the UFO issue. The result was something called the "Rockefeller UFO Initiative" or something and it was chaired by a Dr. C.B. Jones (I think that's the name).
An enthusiastic researcher/activist named Steven Bassett (sp?) was able to use FOIA requests to get this secret divulged. He also got ahold of a picture of Hillary walking with Rockefeller, and he figured out that it was a book, by an astrophysicist, Paul Davies, titled Are We Alone?.
Bassett calls the government silence "The Truth Embargo" but he has insisted that Hillary is a believer and she might make it known if she is asked.
Guess what?
She was asked (a week ago it seems) and her response was pretty cool.

Now I suddenly like her.

The news pages are lighting up with the issue.
CNN says it was a joke, but all the others aren't indicating any humor at all.
Hillary Clinton (jokingly) pledges UFO probe | CNN Politics
I'll bet Steven Bassett will be the guest on the Coast to Coast show that starts in about 20 minutes.

Washinton Times showed British press picked up on Jan 3
A campaign promise: Hillary Clinton vows to investigate UFOs, Area 51 and alien visitors - Washington Times
quote:
It was an unusual question, but the candidate answered it. During a campaign stop late last week in New Hampshire, Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton was asked her opinion about UFOs and whether the U.S. government would ever acknowledge the existence of such unearthly craft.
In a casual conversation with the Conway Daily Sun, a local paper, Mrs. Clinton vowed, Yes, I’m going to get to the bottom of it. She later added, I think we may already have been visited. We don’t know for sure. Mrs. Clinton also suggested that a future task force could be assembled to investigate Area 51, a top secret military installation in Nevada long rumored to have had dealings with UFOS.
It did not take long for the global media to pick up on the exchange. The British press in particular have seized upon the story, which also has a role for former President Bill Clinton - who joins his wife on the campaign trail this week - and former White House adviser John Podesta.
(article has hyper links)
And they mentioned Stephen Bassett. (btw it was a journalist Jim Chapman who did the FOIA requests on the Rockefeller Clinton study)

Had a feeling Hillary would be ridiculed.
I really need to start a thread on astronauts and their witnessing of UFOs.
I was listening to Coast to Coast (assuming Noorey forgot about Stephen Bassett) and I was surprised to see that he was on the final 2 hours of the Jan 7 radio show (or "Jan 6 show" start for mountain and western zones, but the Bassett segments were started on Jan 7 regardless).
Bassett said that 25 of the 33 Rockefeller Initiative members are still alive. Craham Cameron was the one who did the FOIA requests (where I got "Jim Chapman" I have no idea. I googled him and he isn't somebody I know anything about.) Dr. Gibbons was the chair not a "C. B. Young" as I said (I have no clue what I was talking about. Never heard of him either. whew!)
Hillary Clinton's Conway Sun interview was covered in 80 mainstream media articles in English, and 250+ foreign languages. "The truth embargo is generally coming apart right now", Bassett said. He hopes Obama will be the "disclosure President". He imagines that the twelve GOP candidates might consider bringing this up. He said it will be disappointing if the NBC moderators of the Jan 17 debate ignore this one, but they very well could. I wouldn't put it past them (consider the dishonest CNN spin). He said it is "absolutely critical" that she gives a good response, if the issue arises, and it could mean the beginning of the end for the 'truth embargo" starting this month. He has hope that "John Podesta advises her well".
The interesting thing about Stephen Bassett is that he is still highlighting astronaut Edgar Mitchell, former Canadians Defense Minister Paul Hellyer, and Robert Salas as supporters of his congressional hearing initiative. The Hillary Clinton issue seems to have gotten the world a sort of "Presidential hearing" type of issue that seems as rock solid as anything.
He doesn't consider his work over until the disclosure actually happens.

Lets find common ground 99% can agree on.
Hillary has been crowned the anointed queen by the establishment against that evil old "white man socialist".
quote:
The former secretary of state's campaign says that Clinton is backed by 145 House members, 38 of the 46 senators who caucus with Democrats, 12 governors and 17 national unions.
By comparison, Sanders has been endorsed by two members of Congress and three labor groups, the Hill reports.

Yet look at the RealClear poll averages
Iowa
Clinton 45.5%
Sanders 45.3%
realclearpolitics.com
New Hampshire
Clinton 42.6%
Sanders 48.8%

Lets celebrate the fact that the people of New Hampshire and Iowa aren't swayed by a bunch of elite opinion dictators that tell us what we should think and who we should admire. (I admit that I really admire Hillary Clinton for her courageous stance on UFOs, but her recent promise to investigate that issue isn't why every Senator's endorsement went her way)
Lets not be bitter. This campaign has turned out to show some hope for the future of the human race.
And this goes for the Republican primary too. I was pretty relieved to see that a lot of typical b.s. that is spewed out in elite Republican circles is a thing of the past. In that December CNN debate, Carly Fiorina was attempting to distort Hillary Clinton into being some sort of dove -a typical neo-con lie technique - and she tried to twist Donald Trump's opposition to a "No-Fly Zone" in Syria as being, "like that weak Hillary Clinton," while Fiorina bragged about her tough support of the No Fly Zone to which Trump interrupted, "That's Hillary Clinton's position." Fiorina kept on spewing her 100% crap about how the generally anti-war Trump was like ("dove")Clinton, and Trump literally & visibly lost his breath. You could see the air blow out of his silent mouth on the split screen as Fiorina displayed old school neo-con 100% in-your-face-crap that portrays 99% (but perhaps not quite 100.0%) pro-war individuals as "weak" in an endless, and now thankfully recognizably (to many)T-I-R-E-D, trick to move the goalposts further and further toward a fascist direction. The days of all Republicans taking a ferocious pro-war stance while "courageous Joe Liebermann" takes a "moderate", "non-partisan", "reasonable" stand for "independence" and "civility" with 45% of Democrats to help lead our nation into a gentle centrism as we "bomb bomb bombs away" with fellow moderates like John McCain (while successfully smearing the opponents of the wars as the extremists!) and the drumbeat of entire U.S. news media ARE OVER.
Again, lets not be so bitter. This month has been pretty good for the human race IMO.

Hillary and Chelsea are spewing lies on health care.
And it seems that even their supporters aren't defending their distortions.
I think Hillary is going to be in a bad odor with the broad left (including 50% on the center-left) after this is all said and done.
I really think Sanders will win this one (though minority voters, especially blacks, will have a hard time voting for a white MALE Jewish "socialist"). I never thought he would be this strong in January.
