Breaking News: Senate grants Obama big win with fast track trade authority
The Senate has handed President Barack Obama a major victory by approving "fast track" authority to negotiate trade agreements in Asia and elsewhere.
Obama and Republican leaders say U.S. producers must reach more global markets.

Yeah, as NAFTA has proved, there are many impoverished people in third world countries who are dying to buy expensive american made products.
Yep, Obama is the most liberal socialist president ever.
To Faux News, congratulations. Your next goal is to convince the american voters that putting a nail gun up to their heads and pulling the trigger is actually a sound and healthy activity. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Trans-Pacific Partnership: fascism rears it's ugly head
Xong and NWR,
Thanks for the replies, this is clearly, another betrayal of the 99%. Against the best interests of the 99%ers, Obama has historically championed the 1%ers by:
1. abandoning his pledge to bring single payer health insurance to the masses
2. negotiating back door dealings with the pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies
3. supporting wall street criminal activities with bailouts and bonuses
4. supporting the military industrial complex over needed infrastructure
5. violating his oath to protect the constitution by supporting the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, granting legal immunity to telecommunications companies that cooperated with the Bush administration’s program of wiretapping without warrants. This freed 1%ers, Bush Jr/Chaney, from future prison time.
I asked how in the world Bush jr got elected* twice. I ask the same thing about Obama. Is there ANY informed american voter belonging to the 99%? I've said it before and I'll say it again, Obama is a fascist/corporatist, not a liberal/socialist.
And now the Trans-Pacific Partnership. It demonstrates very well the anti-democratic actives of the 1%ers. Obama has pushed hard, winning fast-track approval. This is a rerun of the discredited NAFTA, when Bill Clinton disregarded the 99%ers in order to serve corporate interests. Make no mistake, this agreement is completely for the investors rights:
1. The fast-track proposal, which would stifle legislative discussion of the various parts of this large agreement, is widely understood as aiming to avoid exposure of its parts that legislators and the public might find especially objectionable. This is completely anti-transparent and undemocratic.
2. The TPP is fiercely opposed by labour, environmental, and human rights groups. On the other hand, the Republicans generally support the TPP. What more evidence do you need?
3. The full text of the TPP agreement has been kept classified. What type of fascist police state does this? This pact was formulated in secret mainly in collaboration with corporate representatives. Has Obama, a supposed "professor of Constitutional Law," ever heard of "We the People"?
4. The TPP Focuses heavily on investors’ (i.e., corporate) rights. Euphemistically called a "Trade Agreement" to fool the masses.
5. The TPP would have a significant NEGATIVE effect on equality. Why does Obama want to further exacerbate income equality. I've wrote before, I'm trying to stop the epidemic, yet Obama insists on driving the monkey to the airport.
6. The TPP will price millions of people out of much-needed medical care.
7. The TPP would encourage further out-sourcing and job and tax revenue loss, a further weakening of labor’s bargaining power, windfalls for the wealthy from enhanced copyright and patent protection, along with reduced government revenue for social spending.
8. Supranational litigation tribunals to which sovereign national courts are expected to defer, but which have no human rights safeguards. The TPP IP Chapter states that these courts can conduct hearings with secret evidence.
9. TPP’s IP regime would trample over individual rights and free expression, as well as ride roughshod over the intellectual and creative commons.
10. The corporate media also supported NAFTA and now the TPP vociferously. When will the public learn that the corporate media is the enemy?

Lastly, I just wish american voters would learn from all this and be more skeptical about future politicians. Specifically, Hillary has played the populist role, so far easily fooling the masses. In words, she shows ambiguous "concern" about the TPP. But as president, I have no doubt she would be every bit the fascist/corporatist shill that Obama is.

NWR writes:
Bernie Sanders probably would be, too. A president has far less authority and flexibility than you suppose.
Actually, Obama has clearly shown indefatigable authority and flexibility, . . . when it comes to championing the interests for the 1%ers.
In addition to my opening posts in this thread, try reading through my other threads for countless examples, "The Awesome Obama Thread II," "More Awesome Obama . . .", and Xongsmith's "Obama."

That is simultaneously the most succinct and most accurate description of (at least American, which I realize isn't actually what you're talking about) politics I have seen in a long time.
Dronestar writes:
Most accurate? Errrm, . . . I disagree. There were many flavors of 'vanilla' on the menu in the past: You had low-fat-vanilla-Howard Dean, Vanilla-with-real-vanilla-beans-Nador, Vanilla-with-chocolate-chips-Kucinich, and finally French-Vanilla-Jill Stein.
They were unfortunately withdrawn from the market because of poor sales.
And now we have Vanilla-Yogurt-Bernie-Sanders. A much sought flavor according to the polls below. Would he be every bit the corporatist/fascist shill as Obama? Well, unlike fascist-Obama, Sanders has at least SHOWN some anti-corporate actions in his leadership. (Though it gags me that he is on the AIPAC - The American Israel Public Affairs Committee bribery payroll. The Palestinians WILL be screwed through another american presidency.)
Massive majorities back Bernie Sanders on the issues and disdain Donald Trump
You can get a strong sense of this from the results of the Big Ideas poll commissioned by the Progressive Change Institute in January, which has thus far gotten far less attention than it deserves. (Full disclosure: I’m a former blogmate with Adam Green, co-founder of PCI’s affiliate, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.) PCI first solicited ideas online through an open submission process (more than 2,600 specific proposals were submitted) and then let people vote on them (more than a million votes were cast). This bottom-up process was then tested out in a national poll. The following all received 70% support or more:
Allow Government to Negotiate Drug Prices (79%)

Give Students the Same Low Interest Rates as Big Banks (78%)

Universal Pre-Kindergarten (77%)

Fair Trade that Protect Workers, the Environment, and Jobs (75%)

End Tax Loopholes for Corporations that Ship Jobs Overseas (74%)

End Gerrymandering (73%)
Let Homeowners Pay Down Mortgage With 401k (72%)

Debt-Free College at All Public Universities (Message A) (71%)

Infrastructure Jobs Program $400 Billion / Year (71%)

Require NSA to Get Warrants (71%)

Disclose Corporate Spending on Politics/Lobbying (71%)

Medicare Buy-In for All (71%)

Close Offshore Corporate Tax Loopholes (70%)

Green New Deal Millions Of Clean-Energy Jobs (70%)

Full Employment Act (70%)

Expand Social Security Benefits (70%)

There would at least be slightly more than snowball's-chance-in-hell for any of these actions to be realized under a Sander's presidency. But what chance would these actions have under a orangutan-toupe-wearing-Trump, the-smarter-than-other-retarded-family-members-Bush, or fascist/war-mongerer-Hillary presidency?

RAZD cheered your post? Really?
Let's see, for the past couple of decades (centuries?), the voters have been using this "lesser-evil" strategy. The democrat voters would hold their noses while "carefully" voting for Obama over the more evil John McCain. And the republican voters would hold their noses while "carefully" voting for Bush Jr. over the more evil John Kerry.
With these recent examples in mind, it is your opinion that the following presidential candidates are the positive shift we voters have been "carefully" cultivating?:
Separated at Birth? . . .
HILLARY VOWS TO PROTECT AMERICANS FROM THE 1%, WHILE BEING FUNDED BY THE 1% . . .
Knowing What We Know Now, Would You Say Jeb Bush is Retarded? . . .

Yeah, that was insensitive of me towards the orangutan.
My sincere and humble apologies.
About ten years ago, I traveled to Abai, Malaysia for the wild orangutans. I was part of a curator exchange program and stayed with research scientists in Borneo's Danum jungle.
. . . as for the orangutans . . . you'd be surprised, . . . they're quite tasty.

Re: Trans-Pacific Partnership: fascism rears it's ugly head
RAZD writes:
It is part of the shift - as the republicans slide further to the reactionary right, the dems slide to the right with candidates (Hillary) that can appeal to disaffected republicans (yes there are some, increasingly vocal about it too) ... and that leaves room to the left for new progressive candidates.
RAZD, this supposed "shift" you write of has been happening for decades. Howard, Dean, Nador, Kucinich, Stein, and now latest leftist, . . . Sanders. But there's no discernable (discernible?) nation-wide shift over time, these leftist candidates have been getting the same anemic amount of voters as ever. They quickly are marginalized by the corporate media, then the few voters who actually bother to vote, go and elect a corporatist/fascist/war-monger. As I wrote before, this on-going strategy of "voting for the lesser evil" is not having any positive/progressive effect (where's my single payer health insurance?).
And secondly, even if you could show your strategy was working on a glacially-slow time scale, . . . humanity doesn't have the time. Global warming, fresh water depletion, nuclear weapon proliferation-escalation/mass small-weapons sales, decreasing rights/liberties, third world/poverty escalation, fanatical religious/science-ignorance escalation, increasing military budget, blah blah blah. Just when exactly is this positive shift gonna happen? After the cockroaches become the sole inhabitants of the world?
RAZD writes:
This is the reason that Bernie Sanders is doing so well (are you channeling the main-stream-media in ignoring him?).
Huh? Ignoring?
Try actually reading my post Message 10 of 28 (762766) in this thread.
If you think I am being overly cynical, then I implore you to reply AFTER you watch the republican debates this Thursday. It will be like a clown explosion at the circus, but with more impending doom after-taste.
