Re: Romney looses me
He goes on to talk about how its a gateway drug and legalization for medical use is a path towards total legalization and he's not for that.
I had no position on this until I read here about how medical marijuana had alleviated suffering for one of the EvC residents. I simply hadn't given it any serious thought. I am still opposed in general to legalization, but not to the legalization of medical marijuana.
I am glad Romney is against it at least for now.

Re: Which Platform Has More Substance?
quote:
Decades of trade deals like NAFTA and China have been signed with plenty of protections for corporations and their profits, he declared before GM workers in Janesville, Wisconsin, but none for our environment or our workers who’ve seen factories shut their doors and millions of jobs disappear.
But despite his 'intelligent' campaign pledges to protect the american worker, Obama championed Bush Jr.'s free trade deals with "labor-rights pariah Colombia, tax-haven Panama, and South Korea"
Perhaps there is more context to clarify this, but I don't see any promise not to do trade deals, but only a promise to also champion American workers and the environment. I don't think you've made the case on this one.
At this point American workers are really in a tough bind. Americans aren't going to benefit from trade protectionism because they need us to export stuff to generate jobs. Americans seem to be hooked on cheap plastic and other gaudy stuff made overseas.

Re: So did anyone see the debate....?
I watched the debates. Obama appeared to get his head handed to him on style points. Obama knew inside and out what Romney's plans were and where they would lead the country, but Obama seemed taken aback when Romney simply lied and denied. Romney's plan was untenable, but Obama seemed clueless on how to communicate this to the audience without tutoring them like a law professor.
Romney did an excellent job of calling out Obama for choices like investing 90 billion dollars worth of investments in green energy, while defending tax breaks for oil companies.
Romney seemed likeable, while Obama appeared irritated and to simply to want to be somewhere else.
In my opinion, Obama missed a huge chance to end this election on the spot. Now the future debates, and even the vice presidential debates matter. I would expect that the Republican base was fully energized. This was the best I've ever seen Romney look, ever.

Re: So did anyone see the debate....?
What? That makes no sense. It's not like Romney can drop out of the election, there's no "end" except voting in November.
Of course the election is in November. But that is scarcely a month away. That huge lead you talk about really consists of 5-6 points in a handful of states. Overcoming that is doable.
In my opinion, Obama could have closed out the race last night. I expect turnout for the upcoming election to be poor, and if Romney had gotten anything but a huge win in the debate last night, I think we could have counted on a de-energized base for Romney. Instead I think we have the opposite.
Let's see if there is a significant closing of the gap over the next weeks worth of polling. In my opinion, Obama frittered away a good portion of his lead last night.
I'm still optimistic about the final result, but Romney clearly did himself a lot of good last night.

Re: So did anyone see the debate....?
How, specifically? Making the attacks that Romney had spent weeks prepping for?
None of the above. Obama could have delivered what he had to say in a better manner. I think Obama was correct in every respect, but he came across as listless, bored, and peeved at every lie Romney spoke. He was absolutely right that Romney's lack of any real plans was completely transparent.
Why didn't Obama respond at all to the labeling of his 90 billion dollar investment in green energy as completely wasted.
On the front of pretending to be able to work in a non-partisan way, Romney actually bragged about selling an ACA-like health plan to democrats, and then later complained that no Republicans, including supported the plan in Congress. Romney's own ideas on health care reform were transparently absent. The only parts he could spell out were parts of ACA that he would keep. When Romney stated that insurance companies were already making changes, Obama could easily have pointed out that the companies were reacting to ACA.
In short, Romney served up a bunch of hanging curves that Obama could have swatted completely out of Coors field. Obama missed essentially all of them.
Let's see it last through two more debates. Obama plays the long game, remember?
Of course.
