Hooray - chess! If I remember rightly, didn't the last tournament kind of peter out after about half of the games were won on time?
I just joined as caffeine-evc, because I'm not very imaginative. Who should I be challenging?

Re: Over here!
If everyone plays everyone, you could challenge me. Toss a coin to choose colors or whatever.
Done! The website has a 'play as random colour' option, so it's you to open.
I seem to remember getting schooled by you last time we had a chess tournament. Some focus is called for. I'm quite happy to lose, but I'm not losing my queen to some simple trick this time!

Re: Over here!
I'm already thrown after the first move! All my friends play e4.
Oh, and should anyone care to observe this titanic clash of mighty intellects, they can do so here

Re: Over here!
Omni's quite the clever player. I've been forked by his knight in our single game more than I've ever forked anyone in all my playing!
I just had a look at your game, and the first thing that struck me was that I didn't think I'd ever see anyone open with f3 before. I went and looked it up on wikipedia, and thought you might be interested in their assessment:
quote:
Of the twenty possible legal first moves, 1.f3 is considered to be the worst one.
(sorry - have to get in some laughs prior to my own humiliation)

Re: Over here!
Future opponents, don't let caffeine fool you--he's a sharp cookie.
Win or lose, I'll have had a lot of rust knocked off by our game.
Well, it was going okay up till the inevitable moment of idiocy. I hate that sinking feeling that suddenly hits you just as your finger's clicking submit, but too late to reverse the action. I thought the point of correspondence chess was that you have enough time to think and not lose pieces just because you've forgotten about a bishop!
Oh well - mine and Jon's game is here.

Caffeine vs fearandloathing
Since I am just a few moves away from being checkmated by Omnivorous (but too stubborn to resign), I've challenged fearandloathing to a game.
Am I right that there's just five of us playing? If so, once Omni's finished me off, I guess the scores will be:
Omnivorous: 2
Phat: 0
fearandloathing: 0
Jon: -1
caffeine: -1

Re: Update
Omnivorous: 3
Phat: 0
fearandloathing: 0
caffeine: 0
Jon: -1
frako: -2
Just beat frako, and I'm currently playing Jon, so I'll wait till Phat and fearandloathing are ready!

Re: Update
I just lost to Jon. So caught up in my own attack that I totally missed the checkmate he was aiming for.
Omnivorous: 3
Phat: 2
Dogmafood: 0
caffeine: -1
fearandloathing: -1
Jon: -1
frako: -2
Still need to play Phat, f&l and Dogmafood - let me know who's free!

Re: ChessLife
Just lost to Dogmafood:
Omnivorous: 5
Phat: 1
Dogmafood: 1
fearandloathing: -1
caffeine: -2
Jon: -2
frako: -2
I'm still playing Phat, and then just have fearandloathing still to play, so a positive score is now sadly beyond me.

New Tournament - Any New Players?
So, seeing as all that's left of this tournament is a bit of mopping up, none of which can affect Omni's crushing victory, I've set up a tournament directly through the chess.com website, so it will do all the counting for us and we don't need to remember who is yet to play who. I've invited you all, so you should be getting a message about it on the website, and set it to begin in about ten days.
If there's anyone else who wants to join, just register with chess.com and let you know your username and I'll send you an invite. Please let me know if you think I should change the organisation or settings for the tournament (or if you all think this is a stupid idea!)

New chess tournament?
So, the last tournament is still not finished, since it appears I accidentally set things up to have a playoff between the two top-ranked players. Given that CosmisChimp seems to treat '7 days per move' more as an instruction than a limit, this could take a while longer.
Anyone up for a new tournament?

Sorry it took me a while to get round to it, but I've invited everyone from the last tournament to a new one. I'll give everyone a couple of days so everyone who wants to accept can; then I'll start. Let me know here if any new players want an invite!

Re: What Happened to EvC Chess Tournament?
We're still on the semi-finals of the 2015 tournament because me and Omni are both slow, but I would not be opposed to starting a new one already.
