Maybe change isn't a bad idea?
I write posts about evolution and an old earth, and when I have the time and inclination I will also discuss other subjects such as spirituality, epistemology, and the paranormal. I get poor message ratings for the latter and high message ratings for the former. I suspect all I would have to do is go to the Coffee House and talk about ghosts again, and my member rating would fall. One of our most esteemed posters, RAZD, has a low-ish rating that is undeserved because he also has sometimes defended an unpopular position in epistemology and theism threads. What's usually being rated is the poster's ideology, rather than the actual quality of the posts.
I think it's not a bad idea to let people rate individual messages, but I don't see a need for the posters themselves to be rated.
(ABE) All these posts saying harden up, get a backbone (you wussy) etc -- how very testosterone-fuelled male. I wonder what other women on the forum think. Purpledawn?

Re: About the Upcoming System
Rather than rating a message you'll nominate it for post-of-the-month. The number of nominations will be displayed with the message. Nominated posts will appear in the post-of-the-month forum. Winners of post-of-the-month will see a little icon (a star or some such) displayed with the rest of their member information. The star would also be a link to that message. Someone who acquired a bunch of stars would be an amazing individual.
That sounds really good. I have often wished in other forums that I could do something to highlight well-written and insightful posts. I'd be tempted to ask for the ability to click a "this is bollocks" button too, but even the negative recognition is more than many messages of that type probably deserve
