And yet they all look the same from the outside: the same errors of fact, the same errors of reasoning, even the same daft rhetoric.

I wonder if this isn't a side-effect of the auyhoritarian mindset of most/all fundies. They have Holy Writ - the Bible, or the scribblings of Hovind or Ham - to base their beliefs on, and Holy Writ cannot be wrong.
