I was working in a hospital in Boston when that one hit--we were on emergency power for a while. People called for days afterward, worried that their pacemakers were going to be shorted out by the sun.
Some day we'll get one like that monster back in 1859. That would probably fry the entire global telecommunications network--satellites, land lines, oceanic cables and all.
Coronal mass ejections must happen with some frequency. I'm surprised we don't have a fiery rainbow sky featured somewhere in the Bible.
