okay, so I don't have any quite yet. just thought I'd go ahead and start the topic. basically, I'll just put what I record of me playing the electric bass or bouzouki on here.
I've got two that I'll try to record this weekend. One's a song my ex-bass teacher taught me (mostly slap, and a fair warning--i'm not too hot at slap). the second is a song i've been writing. it's basically my first real song (by that, I mean it's more than a song like the one for the vongo commercials, which is nothing more than a 1-4-5 major progression using the major pentatonic scale. anyone can write that.) it does have a method to the madness, though not much. A good chunk of it is just me fooling around on the D major scale. And if you think it sucks, go ahead and say so. i'll edit this post when I get them recorded. I've got a recording of my song that I like for the most part. I haven't decided if I'm going to do it as a youtube video. At any rate, it'll be up here tonight.
As to the slap song, that'll be next week. I'm not happy with my clarity on it, so . . .more practice. ABE:and me happy that i'm converting the audio files to MP3. For some wierd reasion, my recording software makes the .wav file incredibly huge. It went from 83.5 Mb (.wav) to 7.56 Mb (.mp3). oh, and it's apparently a little over 8 minutes long. Don't ask me how I managed to pull that off. ABE2:i'll include the tablature for it once I get the repetitive stuff written out. tab's about halfway done--just need the stuff after the "solo" section. Edited by kuresu, : No reason given. okay, i did it as a video. you won't see anything though. i have a website where i'd put the music and have you all go to, but the amount of stuff is extremely limited, and I'd hate to have someone go through this thread and say "where the heck is all this stuff at the beginning?"
oh, another problem. I've never been able to get the sound to be loud (when recording. even routing the bass through my amp did little). I suggest listening to it with headphones, or with loud speakers. Stupid, I know. That's what you get when you get cheapish software and recording devices. as to the song itself. It's either in the key of D major or B minor. doesn't really matter though, because both keys have the same notes. if you all want the tab, let me know and I'll put it up. enjoy. ABE:i screwed up somewhere. has anyone uploaded videos to youtube before? can I get your help? ABE2: hopefully this one works. Edited by kuresu, : No reason given. Used to use audacity. unfortunately, because I don't have a fancy-dancy microphone that can handle low registers, and because Audacity does not recgnize my audio input device, I use Live 5.2
To record my bass, I use M-Audio's Fast Track. I plug the bass directly into it, and it into my computer. That's why it's so quite. I could run the bass through my amp, and then through the M-Audio device, but it's worthless. I have to reduce the input level so far down so that you can clearly hear what I'm playing that I may as well just plug directly in. With any luck, the next song will be up tomorrow. I've got it recorded, but no video done yet. Once complete, youtube has to approve the video (ugh). Glad you like it. And the 4 strings isn't really a challenge--it's figuring out where to take my lines that's difficult. Although it does not lend itself to large chords.

yeah, it's Ableton.
easy to use? hah! If audacity accepted my input device I'd still be using it. Granted, it's easier to use now that I've had it for a while. You have to arm the record button twice--once for the specific track and then once for the master. then you hit play, and you can record. just recently figured out how to include multiple tracks--without the second one being for midi. yeah . . . It probably has what you're looking for. I haven't even searched for that stuff.

okay, here it is. but first a clarification. I did not write this song--my former bass teacher did. second off, I know I'm not that great at slap. There's one part I just can never nail. Third--I recorded the video after recording the audio. So yes, the two do not line up quite right (especially at the part I can't do).
Well, enjoy. oh, and it's a touch louder than the previous one. Any more, and the distortion would be unbearable.

here it is. This one is interesting, in a way. I wrote it last summer shortly after my grandfather passed away last summer. But I never put down the chord progression. And I didn't touch the song until just recently--kind of forgot about it, actually.
Anyway, the song does have lyrics. But I'm not singing (hah!). The bass does the lyrics. Each note is one syllable (essentially. I take some liberties somewhere). The solo is a new development, and I finally got one that I'm somewhat happy with. The problem with not writing them down--each version ends up different, so you never really can "perfect" it. Not too many mistakes, though. Oh, the video is composed of pics from my grandfather's house in sweden. It starts at the front of the house, goes down both sides, then to the back, and finally out to sea. The lyrics (and yes, I don't really know just what I was writing. They are . . .odd). Oh, and when the bass has an effect on, it's the chorus (the second effect type is for the solo) Oh, how time moves on/When the tide slows down/ And goes out to sea/ Oh, how time goes on/ When you're watching/ the sails go by/ Oh, how time flies by/ Sitting on the side/ Waiting for it all/ Oh, how it all can be/how it all should be/ Oh, how it all will be/ When time floats on/ Oh, how life wanders/Through the cracks of dawn/ Ne'er will you see the glow/ Oh, how life moves through/ Over the noon-tide rivers/ Waiting for the time to go/ Oh, how life slows/ As the moon is full/ And the sun is gone/ Solo Oh, how it all can be/how it all should be/ Oh, how it all will be/ When time floats on/ Erik Sandegren. 1921-2006. Edited by kuresu, : forgot a third of a verse. added it. now it'll line up right (once the video is there). Edited by kuresu, : I'm an idiot. I uploaded the raw movie to youtube, not the finished one. As such, youtube rejected it. Fixing that now. Edited by kuresu, : all my songs went blank here. Not sure why, attempting to re-embed so that you all can still play/see it. Next time, tell me this has happened. I'm not really active here right now, so I don't notice this kind of failure.

Well, this is an interesting one. It's been bouncing around in my head for about two months and finally got it recorded.
I'm a bass player right? Then what the hell am I doing on a piano? Oh well. Ah, one other thing. My mic should probably have been placed further away from the piano. As it is, I'm not willing (at this point) to re-record it. Kind of lucky to get it as right as I did. Enjoy. p.s. video needs to be approved by youtube first, so this will most likely be up by tonight. p.p.s. well, that is, I believe, the fatest a video has ever been approved for me by youtube. What I consider the "main chord progression" is pretty common--Am, G, F. Or put that chord movement in to any other key you want--in a major key, it would be 6, 5, 4. In a minor key it would be 1, 7, 6. I consider the song to be in C major because that's the basic bass note. Granted, it could also be A minor, since that's the chord the song ends with. Listen to the last half of stairway to heaven for an example (from the solo to the end).
As to the rest, I'm pretty positive it's not my rendition of another piece. No doubt it's influenced (especially with having separate movements, influenced by all the music I played in the high school band), but where they're coming from, good question. And thanks. p.s. I don't like metal lyrics, period. Or metal music.
