Intersting topic
Yet once again insults and harsh debate take over
a lot of good points have been brought up on both sides here, though I believe Nuggin has had the better argument. The rebuttals by the skeptics have been targeted in the book "sasquatch: legend meets science" by Jeff Muldrum (mainstream scientist, not a kook). several scientists contributed to his work, and both jane goodall and George schaller endorse it openly.
As for Gigantopithecus: he is not known only through teeth; several jaw bones have also been found, though the rest of the skeleton is still absent ("The simon and schuster encyclopedia of dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures, page 293).
be back sometime. Chao!

If bigfoot is a descendant of gigantopithecus, then it is more likely to be an omnivore: evidence on gigantopithecus teeth show them to be general omnivores, not just strict herbivores as previously thought (sasquatch: legend meets science", page 92)

Helloo nuggin
Yes I have the book at home. it is a very good read, and as said, answers a lotta objections people bring up. You may find interesting the section on hibernation facinating (the "Fat tailed Dwarf Lemur", a Primate who hibernates (189-90). I guess i'll be accused shortly of stating that sasquatch is a lemur (which i haven't) soon, hehehehe

this book also debunks the idea that a ssquatch would't get enough food to survive winter in the pacific northwest, mentioning lichens, clams, "lush vegetation" and animals on the le bigfeet menu (page 191)

Clams on mountains? never heared of such, but quite a few sightings are reported on "clam beaches" which are rich in things like "shellfish" and other stuff (page 191).
btw: you know about "lamb fries"??

Aboreal, mountainous bigfoots
Not all sightings of bigfoot are in the mountains. The clam beaches are on the west coast, and bigfeet are often sighted on such clam beaches (page 191 )
sightings of bigfoot? or sightings of clams?
Bigfeet are spotted on those particular (ie clam) beaches, but these beaches are not in the interior mountain country, but on the west coast (given the name, clams are most likely there too).
lamb fries: same as mountain oysters, but from sheep. seen in the movie "funny farm" with chevy Chase

BIGFOOT EXHIBIT AT NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
This might be of interest to thoe who debated on this thread. In an Idaho Natural History Museum, there is an exhibit about Sasquatch that takes a Neutral position on the controversy, with such artifacts as the Patterson video, the branch the sasquatch is said to have stepped on in the filming of that footage, Rene Dahiden's flannel shirt (a major Bigfoot investigator) and even hair samples said to be from the legendary critter (Nosy might find that aspect intersting).

Another exhibition, AMNH
The American Museum of Natural History has a section on mythical creatures, with a seemingly exhibit on Sasquatch, which includes a excellent Gigantopithecus and a listing on some sasquatch critters seen arouind the world.

more on this exhibit
this website has more info (should be the same, but might be a different museum), showing a HUGE Gigantopithecus/sasquatch figure seemingly a lot larger than the other more Orangutan-like figure in th first website. Looks more like friggin KING KONG than Bigfoot, Geesh! It does relate the likelyhood of Yeti over other wildmen as being real/legit.

Penn State Bigfoot
Hey Nuggin. Been a while. If your still interested, there was a few photos taken in the wilds of Pennsylvania showing what some are considering a Bigfoot. It is still debated on whether it is a Bigfoot or a mangy Bear that is horribly thin, but in the BFRO website below there is a pic of it below that of the lower 48 that shows it sniffing the ground in a way that I cannot remember seeing a Bear actually doing so. It looks more like an ape posture, but The jury is still out on this one.

Monsterquest
For those of you slightly or greatly interested in the bigfoot topic: I dont know if this has been brought up before on this site, but there is a pretty good show on crypto-zoology critters on the history channel called "monsterquest". Of particular interest is an episode on the "Ohio Grassman", a gorilla-like Bigfoot critter sighted, supposidly leaving large grass nests, hence the name. On that episode they found in the woods a skull of a Baboon (in the Ohio forests!) and a handprint that, based on the opinion of a forensic expert with skills in both human and ape dermal ridges (on fingers, hands and feet), concluded that the handprint was very gorilla like, but actual identification was impossible to know.
This is the show's website:

You can find all the episodes so far (including the one about the Ohio grassman) on Youtube simply by putting "Monsterquest" in its search engine.

Re: Monsterquest
Yes, a lot of sightings seem to span the whole lower 48. A lot of the eastern states sightings ("eastern Bigfoot") seem associated with unusual phenomena, such as the monsters dissappearing in full view (like sci-fi channel's "the Invisible man") and yet leaving anomolous hair samples, as well as nearby UFo sightings. I'll post a source for this info if you want, but another name for the eastern monsgters is "Hairy Bipeds".
If the Gorilla like handprint is not of the fabled "Ohio Grassman" (i wont confirm or deny it just yet), then it makes me think that there is som e primate research lab somwhere nearby where that show was made, and some of the apes and monkeys in it somehow escaped.
