Not Swords, but pointy anyway.
I've never really been into swords but do love all things sharp and pointy.

I've always relied on a baseball bat for home defense. The apartments I tend to live in are small enough that a gun would give, at best, a very small advantage.

advantages
We are taught in karate that a gun always gives a very big advantage.

Re: advantages
I was knocked down and mugged in Arusha, Tanzania. The two gentlemen had a machete. That gave them an advantage, despite my karate training.
But I see your point. Nonetheless, although I have nothing against gun ownership, if I did have a gun it would remain locked in a safe, and I would still have a baseball bat by my bedside.
Edited to add:
Oh, I think that I see a possibility for misinterpretation. I don't mean I would purposely go head-to-head against someone who had a gun -- I'm far too much of a coward for that. I'm saying, if absolutely necessary my weapon of choice would not be a gun.

I am suddenly reminded of the classic scene in the Indiana Jones movie where he shoots the expert swordsman. Game, set, match.
I don't know that I understand the reasoning for a gun not being a good defense weapon for a small apartment.
Personally, I depend upon my guns for defense and lock my baseball bats in my safe. Those things can be dangerous!
