Occam's Razor being the philosophical principle in which the simplest explanation is usually the best one, or alternatively, that the simplest explanation to falsify is the one to start with.
For example, if I walk outside after a storm and see a tree on the ground, I could propose two explanations (1) the storm blew it over (2) a very large, purple elephant knocked it over. Occam's Razor means number one is the first and best choice because it saves us from having to assume there are big, purple elephants running around, for which we have no evidence.
