Sales of recreational marijuana started at medical dispensaries last Thursday.
Pot's legal in Oregon: Scenes from the first day of sales
A friend emailed me this morning and said the dispensary in Bend made $55,000 in sales the first day. I may visit the local dispensary here today and just see what it is like.
The Latest: Oregon pot shops see brisk sales on first day
Under the new law, cities and counties can vote to bar marijuana producers and retailers from operating there in some cases, until a local election can be held to decide the issue. According to the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, 24 cities and nine of the state's 36 counties have enacted bans.
I wonder if their bans will go away once they see tax revenues spike in the "Pot Counties"?
Prohibition never seems to be a good thing for society in the long run. Intoxicating drugs may not be the best thing people can imbibe in, but laws making it illegal have not stopped their use and have had a bunch of unintended negative consequences.

I just saw a facebook article (real trustworthy I know) that said that they ran the "first ever" test and found MJ did not impair driving.
Sounds like something a toker would come up with.
I just ran across this which irritates the crap out of me....
Albany considers permanent ban on recreational marijuana

more a general unresisting or passive mindset Americans seem to have these days in general, of which pot isn't the cause but can certainly exaggerate. At least it's an expression or symptom of passivity. Befuddlement. Lack of sense of direction.
Sounds like TV to me.

Don't forget the scandalous way women dress these days.
I will just never get used to women wearing pants. Zippers in the front and shirts with buttons on the right, what the hell?

Re: something completely different
This sounds more like delusory parasitosis to me.
This is a real condition that can ruin people's lives.
At the entomology lab where I worked, we had sufferers of this condition bring samples in several times a year. Often they brought in pieces of sticky tape that they claimed had parasites stuck on. When we examined them under microscopes there were all sorts of things stuck on the tape, but no organisms.
I have a form of neuropathy myself that causes the sensation of something crawling on my skin when nothing is there. It happens to me mostly in bed and sometimes feels so real that I would swear something is there. I can see there is nothing there using a 20x handlens but the sensation remains. Scratching does not always relieve the sensation.
I would doubt that any plant pests found on marijuana would cause this level of infestation and problem in a next door apartment.
I will say that the knowledge we have about small to microscopic insect pests is not that great. We (entomologists) are always learning new and amazing things about these organisms.
Good luck.

Re: something completely different
It started when the weather warmed up so maybe it will die down with the cold weather.
It will be interesting to see. Once pests are in the home I would not expect the weather outside to have much affect on them.
A fun fact,Thrips is both singular and plural.
There are a huge number of mites and many are mostly unknown to science as far as their life history and foods and predators/parasites are concerned.
We did quite a lot of work on mites in the lab. One of our entomologists became a mite specialist/expert. In addition to my photomicrography equipment I had a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and we had a lot of fun imaging and photographing various bizarro mites.
It turns out that there are very few mite experts worldwide.

Re: something completely different
None of this has anything to do with the topic of this thread, Marijuana.
Faith said her neighbor smokes pot and that she is infested with invisible ankle biters. There is no relationship between her neighbor's pot and her invisible bugs.
Chemistry is not the topic either.

Re: Local Option
According to what has already happened in Colorado, I would say many, if not most of these bans, will be lifted within the space of a year or two.
I hope that will happen. I'm not sure whether there is a store in Sweet Home.

Sales Exceed Expectations
If It Were A Movie, 'Oregon Pot' Would Be No. 4 At The Box Office
Estimates of the first week's sales are $11 million.
Part of the reason for these high sales may be that there is no tax until January 2016, so right now the price is discounted. In January, the 25% state tax kicks in.
I am hoping that cities and counties that do not allow sales will not get a share of the tax revenues.

First Fines
Oregon fines Portland marijuana dispensary for multiple violations related to product giveaways
I'm always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I have not bought any pot in Oregon yet, but I did get a vaporizer gadget. A while before the Oregon legalization a friend picked up some in Washington for me. It is pretty good.
I guess I should buy some here before the end of the year when the tax kicks in and the prices go up.
It will be interesting to see if sales drop off after the tax man comes.
