that's a funny rule.
quote:
As of September 1, 2003, atheists and non-Christians are allowed a maximum of 500 posts or 1 year of membership (whichever comes first). If the non-Christian member still rejects the biblical God after that time, they will be banned from the forum.
what if you're a christian and reject the biblical god? i should go there and cause problems.
quote:
The JCSM Forum is not designed for Christians to become unequally yoked with the world by spending thousands of hours mingling with the same, unrepentant sinners.
that verse deals with marriage. what are they up on that board?
quote:
Christ told His disciples to move on if people rejected them, so giving non-Christians 500 posts or 1 year of membership is ample time for them to repent and believe, trust, and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
christ doesn't strike me as isolationist. afterall, he said take the message to the world, right? how are you supposed to do that if talking to unbelievers is discouraged? jesus hung out with the unsavory sort, too.
this is the exact reason athiest are so disgusted with christians, in my educated (and previously athiestic) opinion. it's called "hollier than thou." and what weak faith they must have to run away from challenges and tempations.
never a backwards glance
a biblical reference. how ironic.

Standards: I set them
Then you are not a Christian by majority definition.
i thought it was about a personal relationship with god, not what the majority thinks about my opinion of how the bible represents him.
also, you're probably right. i'm working on that one.

Re: :/
I told a story about Jesus, that he wouldnt have hide or runaway from another interpretation of the Bible.
they really hate it when you challenge them with the bible. it makes them look bad, when what they believe has nothing to do with what they say the believe. especially when you challenge their isolation on it.
but no, jesus wouldn't have, and didn't run away. in fact, he was the outsider. he was voicing his different opinion, and taking on the church authority. that is, afterall, why they killed him. or maybe they missed that point, that jesus was revolutionay.
you can't have a revolution alone in the dark.
You read threads with titles such as "why did God make women with hairy armpits and legs?".
hahahahahaha. classic.
answer. women are supposed to have hair.
question. why did god make men attracted to prepubescent (hairless) girls?
Christianity has degraded to the point where you can't tell the difference between it and corporations.
suits. oh god, the suits. jesus didn't wear a nice suit, did he?
There will be a revolution in America within the next 50 years.
and they will call it the coming of the antichrist.
recently went to a conference and I met the likes of this online christians. Ignorant, sexist, and sometimes they are racists.
The problem was the worst one I met was the guest speaker...
i'm very familiar with this. it's part of the cycle of modern xtianity. binge and purge, and the purging they do at camps. put a bunch of them together, isolate them from the world. get them to all think the same thing, make them feel guilty for their normal lives. introduce the speaker who urges them to come back and stay away from everyone else. play some bad music, have a religious experience.
the faith they instill is weak and transient. that's why they have to avoid the world. set up the outsiders, and tell you of the constant threat. keep you scared so you stay.
it's a fucking cult. stay away from it.
The christianity I know is still being spoken, I've met two that taught me.
jesus was a pretty cool guy. i think it's gross the things people do in his name.
I can't wait for Jesus to come back. An old man in a shiny white robe.
i'm convinced he would have no place in a christian church. i'm also convinced that he would turned away, accused of blasphemy or heresy, or said to be possessed.
i mean, that is what happened last time. how did the church a revolutionary inspired become the very thing he was trying to change?

Re: I think I've set a record
i thought about jumping in and making some waves myself. but just a cursory examination of the board and it's population proved to not be worth my time.
i mean, heck, they have a bacterial flagellum as their icon. that just screams "i'll listen to anyone who say evolution is wrong!" to me. nevermind that irreducible complexity is a predicted result of evolution, or that said flagellum contains at least one notable subsystem (making it not ic). and, you know, nevermind the fact that behe is not a creationist.
second, the board maintainer is taking some time off to write a book called "problems with evolution." like we don't have enough of these sorts of books, all filled with the same drivel and outdated material. is it suddenly every christian's personal little jihad to take a pot shot at this field of science? cause i missed that memo.
so, no. it doesn't suprise me at all that you were suspended. you were, after, probably attacking the person who started the board, if indirectly. because i'm willing to bet HE'S promoting those misquotes.
-----
added by edit:
on second though, maybe i'll join just to mess with every single one of his premises in his book. i found his outline. here's the religion section:
iiNet | naked dsl - broadband - adsl - phone - voip
3.1 is "evolution is anti-religion."
3.2 is "evolution is religion."
both cannot be true.
3.1.3 is "evolution is anti-design." perhaps he's never heard of artificial selection and genetic engineering? these are two VERY effect methods of designing organic beings within the construct of evolution.

also, i've so far failed to figure what level his "biology degree" is. considering that he completed it in two years time, i don't imagine it could be very high level, and seems to take place WELL after his mind's already been made up. looks kind of suspicious.

i told you he took personal offense at it.
i wonder if he's ever had any RELIGIOUS debate regarding creationism. i really am half tempted to go do some pwnage over there.

Re: I think I've set a record
And yes, I think he regualrly spars with a YEC on the list...the same one who's misquote I objected to, IIRC.
i think i'd really piss him off. i'm "sort of" a yec. i think the bible definitally supports a young earth, and that days in genesis 1 are literal.
i just think the bible is wrong about that.
I doubt that anybody over there has the theology and Biblical scholorship background that you do.
eh, i just pretend.
i wish i had better background. one of these days i'll learn hebrew.

moose has suspended me at least once for failing to use capitalization.
percy banned me for a period of close to two years for this post: EvC Forum: Changes at EvC Forum

Ah, yes - I will never live this down. When I look back on this period I have nothing but regrets, though I still believe change was necessary. We couldn't go on expending so much effort justifying moderator behavior. I'm philosophical about it now. Part of it is the nature of the medium, and I keep in mind an ironically expressed comment I once heard on a podcast: "Oh, a discussion board controversy. What a surprise."
don't worry, it's all good now percy.
i mean... crusading for message board equality? i'm too old for that shit now.
