Microsoft XBox One
vs
Sony PlayStation 4
Let the gaming wars begin!
Psh. You plebs can fight amongst yourselves while I'm shitting in tall cotton.
http://knowyourmeme.com/...he-glorious-pc-gaming-master-race
Anyone with any crazy loyalties?
I was a Playstation guy before I saw the light and built my gaming PC.
Although the specs on each box is relatively the same...
Simply put: I think the PS4 has better hardware and the XB1 has better software.

I tend to spend most (if not all) of my video game time playing simultaneously with the wife, though.
Awe, that's rad. My girlfriend hates video game.
I'm not even sure I can convince myself to get two gaming PCs...
A next gen console would cost about 3/4 of a new gaming PC.
and then buy 2 of every game we want to play...
There's so many free games!
Planetside 2 - MMOFPS
Fantastic game. Totally 100% free. You can spend money to buy in game stuff if you want to. It's insanely huge. They can fit, like, 1000 people on a server all fighting against each other through 3 different factions. You earn certs to get new gear and there's a bunch of vehicles. And a jetpack!
Warframe - MMOTPS
Kinda like Mass Effect 3 multiplayer. 4 man squads versus AI. Its kinda like Borderlands in that you find gear lying around on the ground in the game.
Hawken - Mech Warrior Combat
War Thunder - WW2 dogfighting
D&D Neverwinter - MMORPG
And those are just the ones that I'd recommend because I tried them and like them.
Although each having their own monitor would be much better.
No, no... each having their own dual monitors!
Anyway, because of the simultaneous factor, we tend to use the PlayStation.
Yeah, a console is great for your needs, you know, being a filthy casual and all
Do you think your wife might not like transitioning from a controller to mouse and keyboard? That's something to consider...
We'll probably get a PS4 whenever Borderlands 3 rolls around for it.
I really like Borderlands. Played it all the way through. I never played the second one, though I heard it was a good improvement.

There's just something more casual/personal to sharing a TV and sitting beside each other on the couch compared to having two PCs beside each other...
There you have it. If you're just playing casually, then a console is right for you.
Video games are, in fact, my "retirement plan." Some people want to travel when they retire... I want to travel as much as possible while younger (and play sports 'n stuff 'til the exercise is too rough), then when I'm old and don't want to move... just play video games all the time
So my good buddy has a plan. After he gets rich, he's going to start a video game testing company. Since he's already rich, it doesn't really have to be profitable. But he's going to hire all his good friends, pay them like 100k a year or whatever, and we're just going to sit around and play the latest video games and then write reviews of them and put them on the internet.
Count me in.
They really cleaned up the "feel of the game" in the second one. It's awesome.
If you want to pick up ass-kicking guns while playing through the campaign... stick to Borderlands 1 (it's our favourite of the two).
If you like grinding specific bosses for the fancy weapons you want... Borderlands 2 is perfection.
Yeah, I like playing through the game. Doing the missions n'stuff, the bosses were just ancillary.
The one thing that I didn't really like, was that right after I started getting the energy weapons, I got to the vault and beat the game. I didn't really get that much time to spend using the energy weapons.

Re: Xbox One owner
For the Master PC Race, please tell me what resolution you are running Forza 5 at, or Halo.
My little cousin brought his Xbox over to Grampa's for a holiday. He wanted to show me this awesome racing game. I think it was Forza.
I'm a huge Gran Turismo fan so I was down.
The racing was really lame because there was waaay too much auto-driving. Not just major braking assist, but steering assist too. Might as well just hold the gas button and watch.
So I decided to turn all that shit off because I like to drive the cars. Then it got even sillier. They didn't really just turn the assisting off, but they added elements that made it totally non-realistic. The breaks didn't even really stop the car, and the road was turned into ice. We were even testing it by going fairly slow in a straight line and hitting the brakes hard and the car would just slide and slide and slide. He even admitted that it was pretty lame while it was happening.
Does that sound like Forza or is the driving more simulator-ish?
And I stopped playing Halo when I found out that my mother was having sex with all the teenagers in the fanbase.

A side question, any gamers playing SWTOR(Star wars the old republic)?
Im on red eclipse server 3 chars on the empire side still subbed till the end of this month.
I played that game for a while. Probably until Guild Wars 2 came out.
I had over a million dollars from crafting and selling those blue and purple space ship parts.
Can't remember the server, but I remember being the dirty rebel scum.

I am wrapping up my degree and am looking for a very immersive MMORPG strong on exploring and low on kill, kill, kill. Appreciate the help.
You like boats?
Uncharted Waters Online.
http://uwo.ogplanet.com/en/main.og
quote:
Uncharted Waters Online is a MMROPG set within
several timelines during the Age of Exploration as a romantic
and historic fictional account of the era.
Players will live and play real world of 15th century to make
their own history. Players may choose from among 6 nation-
alities: England, Dutch Republic, Ancien Rgime in France,
Spanish Empire, Kingdom of Portugal, and Republic of
Venice.
As well the player may choose from several occupations
after choosing a basic class: adventurer, merchant, and
soldier. Players are able to trade, explore, battle and join in
live events such as "Great Sea Fights".
Its even free.
I played for a while with a friend who had a low-end computer and couldn't run the stuff I usually play. Its actually a pretty good game. I found it a little boring sometimes though.
You start off and get a guy, then you do some training, figure out what guild you want to join (you can be an explorer, or a trader, or a fighter), get yourself a boat, start sailing around and finding towns n'stuff.
You can see who's selling what goods at what prices and then buy low and sell high between the various towns. It centers on Europe, but the map is huge and even has the carribean in it.
http://static1.wikia.nocookie.net/...obal_Map_in_English.png
I won't hotlink that map, its huge. I think I started off in Seville, in Southern Spain.
I said it gets boring because, even though the time is sped up during it in game, sometime you have to sail pretty far and all you can really do is sit there and stare at the back of your boat. (although, I remember minimizing the game and surfing the web for a few minutes while I was traveling somewhere).
All in all, its not really fantastic, but its cool and different and a good game. Its certainly worth a try for the price!

Re: Xbox One owner
If you want to judge a console by restrictions that they never enforced on a single gamer, then that is your choice.
I read that as judging Microsoft, not the console.
I tend to look at what the console actually offers and the actual restrictions. Perhaps that makes me the minority. I don't know.
As a Playstation fanboy, I can still say that the XB1 has some awesome offers. My friend has one. Snapping the Internet onscreen while watching TV is actually pretty kickass.
All I know is that there is a group of gamers that have this overpowering sense of entitlement that just doesn't make sense to me.
I think, during college, downloading Day 0 games on the Scour Exchange and playing them on a modded Playstation before we could walk to the store and buy one, oh and playing crazy Japanese games that they don't even sell in the US, kinda spoiled me as to what I feel like I'm entitled to.
But, really, if you bought a CD and you couldn't listen to it in your friends car, dontcha think you'd be a little peeved about that?

Re: The Duopoly
Instead of the marketplace flopping around between 50/50 or 60/40 in favour of each company at different times... it would jump to a 90/10 scenario and never change.
Ahem:

Re: The Duopoly
But, really, this would just make the decision by Microsoft to be even stupider...
If you have a minor piece of the pie, and you would like to increase your market share... you don't go about it by being the only company deciding to take away choice and make things more expensive and difficult for the end user.
I'm not trying to defend against Microsoft's stupidity. But the Digital Rights Management wasn't really something that was being advertised. People dug through the policy and discovered them.
And Microsoft was trying to act like they put that stuff in there to make it better:
quote:
For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.
But the internet saw through the bullshit and called them on it. DRM is to protect the company's profits by limiting the ways people can enjoy games besides going out and buying them.

Re: The Duopoly
That's not really what I am talking about. My school of thought is that different companies offer goods, and you choose the goods that best fit your needs. Then there are those that think companies should do exactly what they tell them to do, or else.
Or else what? They don't buy their goods. Its still just choosing the goods that best fit your needs.
As a manufacturer, I want customers to tell me what they do and do not want. I'm on our complaint committee, I have guys calling me going: "Ya know, I really hate to complain but..." And I tell them: "No, please complain. I'm not aware that you're having a problem unless you tell me about it."
The original Xbox One policies were similar to Steam's policies, and less lenient in some instances.
Steam has never sold discs. DRM makes sense without physical data. Microsoft was going to spread the DRM onto the physical data, so to speak.
MS was very upfront with the DRM policies they were proposing.
But they were trying to act like they were implementing them to make the good better for us. That was a lie. Customers don't like being lied to.
Companies are trying to make a profit? Say it isn't so!!
Its not the end that was the problem, it was the means.

Re: The Duopoly
Or else they will spend hours on internet forums repeating the same whines over and over.
Citizens are exercising their right to free speach? Say it isn't so!!
Quite right, which made the original Xbox One policies a leg up on Steam. The whole vision of the original Xbox One policies was to treat discs the same as you would a download to get around problems with data caps and slow connections make more money buy preventing different people from using the same disc.
FTFY
This is the whining and entitlement I was talking about.
People don't want to be ripped off and lied to... fuck them, right?
I just found it funny that everyone thought Steam was so wonderful, but when a console moved towards the same policies it was the end of the gaming world.
People like to share discs on consoles. Microsoft tried to prevent that to make more money. It was a dick manuver. People called them out on it.
And can't you still play Steam games in off-line mode?

Re: Another Update
Xbox One does have a "big" exclusive game up for sale in the next week (Titanfall).
Which is also available to the glorious PC master race...
We will start with Final Fantasy XIV.
I've been really enjoying FF14. I've got black mage up to lvl 50 , and white mage up to ~40.
Did you play FF11?
In FF14, they've really taken back to the MMO basics (kind like FF11 was). Your job (class) has one role and the entire party relies on you doing it, and doing it well. Ya know, tank, healer, DPS. That does tend to those annoying elitists who can't be bothered to help a newb learn how to do their job, but we're not all like that so be patient.
I remember when Guild Wars 2 came out, and it was sorta novel in that it didn't really matter what your class was, you could tank or heal or dps with any of them. That ended up making the game duller in the end. There really wasn't any reason to focus on one particular aspect of the game. You just did whatever you want.
With FF14, you pick your role, and you have to focus on getting the job done. Granted, you can change your role (job) any time you want and do something else, but each job has a specific role that you will have to do.
I would recommend you and your wife do a tank/healer combo. DPSers are a dime a dozen.
I haven't been playing FF14 much, though, since 7 Days to Die came out. (its an awesome idea for a game, check it out)
Let me know if you have any questions about FF14 or anything.

Re: Another Update
I am curious is Halo 5 will help boost sales. I myself am a huge fan of the franchise,
I have to know: Is your mother having as much sex with the fanbase as mine apparently is?
I don't think this will help as much as most people think. Many have just realized that Titanfall is only a multiplayer game.
I had hundreds of hours in Battlefield 3 and getting there in Battlefield 4, and I haven't played any of the single player campaign at all.
For the ultimate sin, I bought Mass Effect 3 to play the multiplayer with some friends who already had it, and I haven't played any of the single player on that game either. I know, that's terrible. But we're out here.
