Penn Jillett has a great rant on the subject.
Yes, that was good. When I hear, say on the news, "70% of people believe X", I sometime mumble to myself "they believe X when asked." There is an awful lot of social pressure, and a huge tendency for people to bow to that social pressure in what they say.Jesus was a liberal hippie

Do you even know what "socialist" means?
The western world has been becoming progressively more socialist since the french revolution. foreveryoung writes:
You must be talking about the leadership of fundamentalist Christianity.
Centralized control of mankind just seems to fit naturally for these "elite" type of people who are not like the common man. foreveryoung writes:
Yes, that's definitely about fundamentalist Christianity.
They are aggressive and will not cease from their efforts until their goals are accomplished. foreveryoung writes:
And this is well illustrated by the racist hatred of so many fundamentalist Christians, toward President Obama. This is why you see such consternation and threats of becoming expatriated when someone not of their ilk takes the reigns of power. Theodoric writes:
A small "correction" here. As I see it, foreveryoung did not actually make a personal attack in Message 55. His attack was against a group, rather than against persons. And the group was only vaguely specified with nobody explicitly listed as part of that group.Ahh the Foreveryoung we know and love is back. Personal attacks are all you seem to be good at. We can all readily judge who foreveryoung thought to be in that group. But since he did not identify individual persons, I see "personal attacks" as not quite correct. Although I take myself is intended to be part of the attacked group, this was not the same as a personal attack on me.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

Oh, I agree. It certainly makes foreveryoung look worse than if he had merely had a fit of anger against one person. You say that as if it makes it better. It doesn't. It makes it worse. I had thought about directly replying to foreveryoung in Message 55, but then I realized that I could not find anything more critical to say about him, than what he had just said about himself. So I am mostly just watching the entertainment.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

No, not everywhere.Everywhere on the web it is stated that murrow said this. I considered responding to your Message 89, so I looked up that saying ("googled it"). I was looking for the date when Murrow might have said it, but I came up empty on that. There seems to be some doubt as to its origin. One suggestion was that mentioned by Theodoric, that it was due to de Jouvenel. It does seem to be all over the tea party web sites, where it is apparently some kind of slogan. In any case, you are using a slogan whose meaning you probably don't understand. And you are using it to draw unwarranted conclusions.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

There is nothing wrong with rich people keeping what they earn, after paying their fair share of the cost of services provided to them.I just don't think that allowing "rich" people to keep the money they earn is allowing the "rich " to rape me. There is a problem with people who have lots of money coming in that they did not earn, and then complaining about even paying what would be their fair share if they had earned it.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

I don't know where you live.My overall EFFECTIVE tax has greatly risen. Through his actions on the petroleum industry, I am paying close to 4 bucks a gallon for gas. Here, in the Chicago suburbs, I was paying over $4.00 per gallon back in 2008 before Obama was ever elected. My guess is that if you search back through newspapers in 2008, you will find reports of that and of the auto-industry suffering because people stopped buying gas guzzlers due to the high prices.
foreveryoung writes:
This is complete nonsense. You demonstrate that you are one of the sheep by believing this BS.Through his forced obamacare on all small businesses, it is very difficult to find a good paying job and to buy affordable health insurance. Obamacare has not been put sufficiently into effect yet, to have had any impact on small business. The difficulty in getting a job is entirely due to the economic program of Bush that caused the economy to fail. And Mr Etch-a-Sketch, the amoral Mormon chameleon, wants to reinstitute that failed economic policy.
foreveryoung writes:
More BS. Stop being one of the sheep, and start looking at the evidence yourself.
All the new regulations on the insurance industry has only served to raise their rates and lower their services. I realize they are now offering new services like allowing your adult children to be on your plan and covering existing conditions, but those come at the cost of higher premiums and reduced coverage elsewhere. foreveryoung writes:
Yes, that is more of a problem for me than are the gas prices.
The biggest tax on me so far is the rising cost of food. foreveryoung writes:
More BS.When the federal reserve does those "quantitative easings", they put all those extra dollars into circulation with nothing in value to back them up. That is what causes the cost of food to go up. Most of the price rise in food started when Bush was still president. Prices then subsided a little, due to the recession. They have picked up again, now that the economy is picking up. Once again, I suggest you look for old newspapers to find when the price rise on food began. You again demonstrate quite clearly that you are one of those sheep. You are going along with all of the BS propaganda that is being fed to you, and you are failing to seek evidence or to think for yourself.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

LOL.Actually it is you who is the sheep for believing what you do about the issues I just described. Stop being a sheep. Everything you just told me was force fed to you by just about every mainstream media outlet out there complete with all the catch phrases like etch a scetch. I paid those high gas bills in 2008. I saw food prices rise in 2008. Back then, I was paying $100 for my weekly food shopping almost every week. This year it has only rarely reached $100. The evidence is out there where you can find. But you won't, because are gullible and fall for whatever lies are told you.
foreveryoung writes:
The "Etch-a-Sketch" reference comes from a spokesman for the Romney campaign. A google search should find that for you.... complete with all the catch phrases like etch a scetch. Turn off Fox news. Turn off Limbaugh. Turn off all of the other right-wing propaganda outlets. Spend a little effort, and you too can find out what is happening in the world.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

It is being repeated, because every speech that Romney makes contradicts the positions that he was favoring a few days earlier.who is it that keeps repeating the etch a sketch mantra? He is probably talking about the tax change that eliminated some of the deductions that we could previously make. For example, in Illinois we lost the ability to deduct state sales and local taxes. As I recall, after that change you could only deduct sales tax if you were in a state without a state income tax.
There were other deductions that we could previously take - I think medical expenses was one - that now were limited. The expenses had to exceed some percent of your income before you could deduct them. I'm not sure of the date of those changes, but I think it was in Reagan's second term.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

That was completely inappropriate.I didn't realize I said that then. I guess you have never said one word when you meant another huh? liar. This is why you and many others here are such jerks. This was a time when you should have thanked Theodoric for the correction, and you should have apologized for your earlier incorrect statement. Instead, you called him a liar and a jerk. I am well aware that you do not like Theodoric, and that you may well think him a liar and a jerk. Nevertheless, there are times that we should apologize and times that we should thank even those whom we dislike. It is the Christian thing to do.Fundamentalism - the anti-American, anti-Christian branch of American Christianity

Thank you for making it completely clear that you are not a Christian. The accusatory tone is warranted in my opinion. They both had a sarcastic and condescending tone to my simple mistake of using petroleum engineer instead of petroleum geologist. They both jumped to the conclusion that I was ignorant and didn't know what i was talking about. They can stuff their apology. I suggest that you take some time to read the teachings of Jesus. Read them for yourself. Don't go by what your pastor or other are telling you.
