I'm 34.

That's about the age I was when I chucked a lucrative profession\career to embark on a new less lucrative but more fulfilling one, traveling from the west coast to the east coast in the process, with family in tow.

Congrats, good luck. Don't envy you living near Chicago, although I've had several friends manage it. I used to be an engineer before becoming a designer.
