This was probably because you left something out or used an incorrect character. Maybe one of the square brackets was actually a curly brace or a parenthesis. Or maybe you forgot the slash on the closing quote. Or maybe you placed the slash in the wrong place. Or maybe you used other dBCodes that were malformed.
There's a lot of ways to go wrong, I know, but fortunately the board software will help you out. If while composing a message you click on "Preview" it will show you what your message will look like, and any malformed or mismatched dBCodes will be highlighted in red.
