When I hold the mouse pointer over the reply box the message "reply without quote" pops up. I've been having trouble with quotes using [qs] and
.
I'm having trouble with quotes
seems to work here in a new thread but not in existing threads. Hope someone can help.

Any reply wil be without quotes, you have to manually insert them.
{ABE}What you did in your OP was right. In an existing post, click the reply under the post you wish to reply to, then in the empty dialogue box type the [qs] or
, then copy the text you wish to quote, then end with the appropriate [/qs] or
Hi
Hi penstemo, welcome to the fray. looks like you've figured the quotes out.
You can also look to see how the message you are replying to was formated by looking to the right side of the "reply without quote" bar to where it has bullets for normal display and "peek mode" and you can "peek" at any message with the button next to the reply button at the bottom.
This is a good way to pick up tips on how others have used the formating opportunities.
Enjoy.
Here are some posting tips:
type [qs]quotes are easy[/qs] and it becomes:
quotes are easy
or type
quotes are easy
and it becomes:
quote:
quotes are easy
also check out (help) links on any formatting questions when in the reply window.
For other formatting tips see Posting Tips
If you use the message reply buttons (there's one at the bottom right of each message):

... your message is linked to the one you are replying to (adds clarity). You can also look at the way a post is formatted with the "peek" button next to it.

Re: Hi
Thanks. It seems to be working now. When I previewed a message earlier today qs and /qs appeared along with the brackets in the message.

This was probably because you left something out or used an incorrect character. Maybe one of the square brackets was actually a curly brace or a parenthesis. Or maybe you forgot the slash on the closing quote. Or maybe you placed the slash in the wrong place. Or maybe you used other dBCodes that were malformed.
There's a lot of ways to go wrong, I know, but fortunately the board software will help you out. If while composing a message you click on "Preview" it will show you what your message will look like, and any malformed or mismatched dBCodes will be highlighted in red.
