If Macaques are smart enough to use aqueous food who can say Ramidus and Afarensis weren't? Even if Ramidus & Afarensis did use aqueous food it still wouldn't make them aquatic, just land creatures who "fished" for food. arrogantape writes: I don't think claiming we all have just as much hair as chimp is constructive in this debate. Having peach fuzz is what makes us look naked. In the water, the peach fuzz has negligable drag. Olympian swimmer have noted faster times swimming nude. Except all humans don't have "Peach Fuzz" Some humans particularly Northern & Central European Have quite a bit more than humans from other areas. I wouldn't call the body hair, that I have, peach fuzz.Dark hair everywhere except the palms of my hands and the bottoms of my feet. If I need an EKG, the medical people have to bring out a razor to get rid of some of the hair to get a good contact. William R. Leonard Food for Thought, Dec 2002 writes:
The evolution of H. erectus in Africa 1.8 million yeares ago also marked the third turning point in human evolution: the initial movement of hominids out of Africa. Until recently, the locations and ages of known fossil sites suggested that early homo stayed put for a few hundred thousand years before venturing out of the motherland ans slowly fanning out into the rest of the Old World. Earlier work hinted that improvements in tool technology around 1.4 million years ago--namely, the advent of the Acheulean hand ax--allowed homimids to leave Africa. But new discoveries indicate that H. erectus hit the ground running, so to speak. Rutgers University geochronologist Carl Swisher III and his colleages have shown that the earliest H. erectus sites outside of Africa, which are in Indonesia and the Republic of Georgia, date to between 1.8 million and 1.7 million years ago. nowhere does it state that h. habilis ever left Africa. A map inclued with the article shows the route taken by H. erectusbut shows that H habilis stayed in the area between Olduvai Gorge and Lake Turkana. h Floresiensis swam to the Island. That is a long swim, and not one for novices. Since there has been occupation on Flores for 800,000 years some early hominid made the swim. Could you provide any credible evidence that florensis swam to flores from Africa? The evidence is that it swam to Flores Island. What evidence all you are saying is that they swam there? What evidence that they didn't walk there over the course of 20,000 years.
