Forget global climate change for a moment... the human population is surely the biggest threat to our first world way of life.
What do we do?
Nothing. It's too late.
How do we stop it increasing?
We don't. The consequences will take care of that for us.
How do we reduce it?
War. Plague. Asteroids. Heat.
What will happen if we don't?
Nothing important.
Should we care?
For most of my life, I have cared. In order to look myself in the eye, I became a race traitor, then a class traitor, then a gender traitor, then a nation traitor...
My hopes rose and fell with neighborhood and planet, and now planet and universe. I no longer believe we matter very much.
I hope that life and sentience are emergent properties throughout the universe. I choose to believe so. Like Powdermilk Biscuits, that gives this shy person the strength to get up and do what has to be done.
The loss of one obscure planet won't matter much. I suspect many Gaias fail to solve the fouling and blooding of their nest.

God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, ”Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It’s yours.’
