This is from a blog run by a friend of mine.

He has a number of articles and then runs surveys and has comments on the articles.
This one is about a new "offensive" by the Phelps family:
Anti-Christ Anti-Christian - by Marty Martorella for Christianity and the Confusion
Through out time there have been religious wars against those of other faiths. The differences in believes do not even have to be great to bring blood shed. Christianity has been as guilty as any religion, even to the point of Christian killing Christian. When we forget why Christ came to the world we are doomed to act like those who crucified Him.
Today we see people calling themselves Christian acting very un-Christian. Instead of showing the Spirit of God to the world they show the Spirit of the Anti-Christ. There is very little love in their words and one must wonder if they remember why Jesus died. Fred Phelps and his followers from the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas have been picketing the funerals of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq. Their reasons are quite odd, for somehow they are associating the occupation of Iraq with homosexuality.
It would be bad enough losing a child to a {your choice: out of hand war or senseless invasion}, but to have this happen and then get this kind of hate mail and attack for something that is not only irrelevant but logically false during your time of grief and dealing with loss has to be the most ... okay I have to say it ... unchristian thing to experience.
There are three videos from CNN linked on the site that show this offensive action:
We have three short video clips for you, if you watch them in order you will find the last very interesting.
Video clip one
Video clip two
Video clip three
You'll have to go to the Site linked here to link to the videos
This is the gospel of hate.
Not something anyone can ... enjoy, eh?

Consider anti-hate legislation
Westboro Baptist Church - Wikipedia
Westboro Baptist Church is a hate group based in Topeka, Kansas, headed by minister Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr. and notorious for running godhatesfags.com and other websites expressing its condemnation of homosexuals, minority groups, and various other groups (see "WBC Websites" below). Its members identify themselves as Baptists; the church is an independent Baptist church not affiliated with any known Baptist conventions or associations. The church describes itself as following Primitive Baptist and Calvinist principles, though it has been accused by others of Hyper-Calvinism.[1].
In addition to their anti-homosexual stance, the organization also possesses a strong anti-Catholic, racist, neo-Nazi, anti-American, and anti-semitic stance, picketing Holocaust Memorials in an attempt to downplay the severity of the event, and holding the belief that "Jews killed Christ."
The organization is monitored as a hate group by the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center.[3] Not only is Westboro opposed by supporters of gay rights, but the vast majority of Christian groups (even those who agree with Westboro that homosexuality is a sin) oppose Westboro's theology and practice, believing it to be incompatible with authentic Christian teachings.[4]
I agree with you freedom of speech is important, but does the right to free speech overwrite the right for other people to live a normal happy life?
I don't believe there is a freedom to live in a cocoon of ignorance.
We allow protests at abortion clinics -- just no so close that it impedes the passage of people to and from (nor block the protesters from going for abortions).
Perhaps they are their own worst enemy -- the number of people willing to come out and block them is impressive.

Insane?
You don't think they exibit classic symptoms of cults? When does it cross over into delusion and insanity?
Do we have a right to be protected from insane people? What's the line?
If it's one person it is easy to say {delusional\insane}, but it can be genetic eh?
It would be an interesting approach if they were arrested for anything to have the court investigate whether they are mentally competent to stand trial.

OMG !!
Video clip three just rules! All hail Fox News.
Yes that was ... interesting ... , but it was CNN (not that there's much difference).
They should all be arrested, and evaluated, to see if they are compatible with society.
Public nuisance? Incitement to riot?
Perhaps checked for rabies?

Re: Patriot Guard
One other option would be to create laws that forbid trespassing on cemetary property if you are not there for a service or to visit a grave. I guess that would only apply to public cemetaries and private graveyards would have to secure against protest through their own means.
I would think that private ones would be easier to close to outsiders, the way restaurants will close to the public to host a wedding reception, for instance.
Now I would like my final celebration to be a fireworks party, one where my ashes are packed into the big finale. Perhaps we could find a suitable spot for them to protest ....

oh well. but like I said, not much difference. "news" is sensation, not sense.

Re: Insane?
I think the line is probably at physical violence.
There is a standard for mental abuse as well as physical.
Yeah, but they also seem to attract folk that marry into the zoo so it is less likely that it is directly genetic.
Or they are self selecting for similar mental delusions.
