Re: Omnivorous, at the "Is there anything good about narcotic prohibitions?" topic
Thanks, Moose, Holmes, Percy--to borrow from Allen Ginsberg, I've seen some of the best minds of my generation thrown in the clink for curiosity about their own consciousness. Such a sad and tragic waste...

Thank you, Robin. You wield a wicked pen yourself.

Re: Many people, at the "Is there anything good about narcotic prohibitions?" topic
Yeah, I think what's great is that they all seem to be compelling, without being overtly negative or meanspirited against those that they disagree with. So far no POTMs have come in for those supporting drug laws and I want to make sure they understand that I think those have been well written too. I agree, holmes--I believe as good a case for drug laws as can be made is being made. I need opposition as eloquent and honest as most of this thread has been to make me think hard and write passionately. Otherwise, I'd be left harumphing at twaddle, and who needs that?

Re: Omnivorous, off-topic, but still interesting at "Cartoons and common sense"
Thanks, Moose. I apologize for the off-topicness--the curiosity of youth sometimes turns an old man's head all the way around, and, before you know it, with a wink and a nod we are co-conspirators. Perhaps a thread in the Comparative Religion forum on the Varieties of Religious Retreats? AbE: Though I guess it's too late to move it without disrupting the chain of posts...I'm not yet adept at this stuff, so I'll leave that call to you. Brenna tells us why the only bar must be our vote
Author: brennakimi Forum: Miscellaneous Topics in Creation/Evolution Thread: Should a Creationist be allowed to hold a position of Authority Message: #128 Our Pale Bender does an excellent job of explicating why some views may bar your vote but must not be a bar to office. Even without capitals, it's outstanding.

Re: Omnivorous, at "Death of a Scotsman (Re: the "no true Scotsman" fallacy)"
Thanks, Moose.
As far as Moose POTM nominations go, Omnivorous seems to have replaced Holmes. Egads, don't say that! The last thing I need is that sharpshooter picking my arguments apart. Anyway, I know I'm just a fad.

Holmes and Monsters Under the Bed
Author: Holmes Forum: In The News Thread: 2/3rds of Americans want creationism taught Msg: 247 The monsters under the bed analogy is one of best I've seen for a discussion of science's priorities and methodologies. The rest of the post is top-notch, too, of course, but I'd decided on this nomination by the end of the second paragraph.

Modulous and Existentialist Joy
Author: Modulous Forum: Faith and Belief Thread: Who's afraid of a godless universe? Msg: #16 Modulous goes from contemporary music to Shakespeare to the grandeur of the universe and back, reminding us along the way that along with existentialist angst, there is also existentialist joy. His post, like his own experience, nearly brought me to tears, too.
