The latest news is that the S.I. is not longer 'co-sponsering' the event, and that it returned the fee. However, the event is still going on, but the S.I. rents out the space to everyone anyway.

People are opposing a valid theory, that is quite robust, and has much evidence for it, on the basis of religious belief. That is what the ID people are doing.
