But we do observe animals that are homosexual. Is this the wrong thread to mention that? There's something like 500 different animal species where we've observed homosexual intercourse.

Take any complaints to the appropriate link in my signature.
Take any discussion of your "assertion" to an appropriate thread. You are making claims against a segment of society that can only hold up due to a particular religious belief and you also assert that your diety would be for a violent judgment against this segment. Maybe you would get further in your discussion if you gave your definition of prejudice and of hate speech. (not a dictionary definition but your own) While you're at it a definition of assertion wouldn't hurt either. Swift, please give us your definition of prejudice, hate speech, and assertion.
You are not making statements of belief, you are making assertions of fact. No one is being hateful towards your beliefs, they are reacting towards your hateful assertions towards living breathing human beings. I will be more than happy to discuss this issue with you in the suggestions forum but it needs to stop on this thread, or I will close it down for a short period. (kicking myself to observe Asgara's warning)
"Swift" writes me:
quote: As I hinted before, I think some of these ideas are dying out, at least among the Southern Baptists. But older Baptists still hold to them. It's a matter of simple fundie logic really: 1. Southern Baptists believe that if one has committed a sin, but given the opportunity one does not ask God for forgiveness of that sin, one will go to hell. 2. Southern Baptists (unless there has been a very recent change) believe that speaking in tounges is a sin. 3. Pentecostals speak in tounges. They don't ask forgiveness for it. It follows that according to Southern Baptist belief, Pentecostals are going to hell.

Well, I'll let Jesus speak according to Matthew 10:
34Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father,a daughter against her mother, a daughterinlaw against her motherinlaw— 36a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.’[e] 37Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Yes, he is prince of peace, but most of his sermons talked about separating good from evil, people from people, sheeps from goats. Sounds like war to me.

It would appear that the bible, and indeed the gospels, send us mixed messages. I take the measure of the Christian by which message he or she follows. If Jesus isn't the Prince of Peace then as far as I'm concerned he isn't worth following.

Do you know pink sasquatch personally, to make such an assertion... or are you simply making an assumption about his morality based on the views he's expressed (or, you might say, a prejudgment)? {Edited for spelling.} This message has been edited by Morte, 01-20-2005 21:42 AM

quote: I know that this is still somewhat off-topic, but I just want to point out that you're not being asked to stop because of your views on homosexuality, as you seemed to feel you were (although the phrasing of the demand certainly implied it), so much as because mentioning homosexuality is one of the surest ways to drag a thread off-topic here. Since the paragraph I've quoted is positively saturated in falsehoods based on stereotypes, I feel compelled to refer you to other threads where you may more openly discuss or examine a past discussion on the subject of homosexuality. I highly recommend that you either check out and reply in (if it hasn't been closed) one or more of the following threads or open a thread of your own on the subject. Past threads:
What will become of marriage? Harm in Homosexuality? Homosexuality Vs. Heterosexuality I want one good reason that being gay is ok (And on a side note, I wonder how this got past the then-usual 300-post limit... ?)
Amendment # 28 to ban Gay marriage! Homosexuality, the natural choice? (Gay Animals are Common) Some may drift far (some very far) from the original topics, and they can get highly repetitive, but I think you could learn quite a bit from reading some of the opposing views (specifically about homosexuality in nature, loving relationships, and family settings). You might find that homosexuals' relationships aren't as different and unnatural as you seem to think. There are more if you do a search on "Homosexuality" across threads using the search feature - I also recommend one of the "Homosexuality and the Bible" threads started by Lam if you wanted to read a bit about the biblical basis for your views (I believe all of them are closed at this point - hence the word "read"). {Edited to reduce redundancy.} This message has been edited by Morte, 01-20-2005 22:32 AM

Let me try this agin. I was not homo bashing. I was pointing out evidence to a peson that it is unattural. But someone had to be jerk. In fact im starting to think most of the people on here are jerks(save a few) since i have been treated with disrespect ever since i have been on this web site. This is a site that is atheistic freindly i belive and not freindly to christians that speak there minds and tell it like it is. You would rather christians stay quiet and not tell it like it is. And then you persacute them. By doing this thogh you prove what Jesus said. That a servant is no better than the master they serve. People hated him and so do they hate the ones who serve him. You say we are prejudice. If you point at me you have three fingers pointing back at you. And after i write this i will probbobly never return to this site, but that will be fine with you wont it.

Swift, perhaps you would like to provide your view on homosexuality in one of the threads linked by Morte in Message 39?

It would appear to me that your church has sent you mixed messages.
Nice try to confuse the bible. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, according to Isiah. He is the Prince of Peace period. Your own inner peace with the Lord. It is by his suffering that we may have peace. This is attainable by all who believe in him. If you don't believe in him, that is where the separation takes place, with you and the rest of the world. This is obvious today. Jesus knew full well that not everyone in the world would follow his ways, and become the "perfect world". Again, it is the fault of man that we do not have peace, not Jesus. It's like you blame it on him, when you say, well since he's not the prince of peace, then I won't follow him. That sounds like ignorance, and arrogance. Then you become part of the cause why there is no peace. Everyone searches for the truth. When they find it they have peace. Jesus is that truth, the way, the light of the world. Through him we have peace, and he sent us truth, by way of his Holy Spirit. He makes it very clear that if you don't follow him, you won't find it. His way is the only way to true everlasting peace. In the end there will be false peace, world peace, but no one will have inner peace, so the peace won't last. The messages are not mixed, you have just been deceived to what they really mean. Someone might have stole your peace. I pray that you would find it. I want you to have it. *edit* I just wanted to clarify something. Through your words in this forum, I get the feeling that you are a peaceful person, and full of love. So I didn't mean to imply anything less. But there may be more available to you.
