It is the Democrats that rely, indeed hope for, the ignorance of the masses to perpetuate themselves.

You ARE talking about Kerry, right? (I found the sarcasm icon )
Kerry is full of criticisms, but not ideas. He is an empty suit. He trying to placate both pro-war and anti-war Democrats by flip-flopping. I guess we have to wait for the debates to find out if he really has good ideas or if he continues to dodge his own stances and distract by criticism. But it's too late. The fact that he is acting this way has convinced many folks that he is not a leader.
I agree with Paisano that Democrats depend on ignorance of the masses.
For example:
1. The ill-informed elderly whom believe the Democrat lies that Republicans want to do away with their benefits, when all the Republicans propose is preserving the current commitments and shifting the funding to private person-held accounts so the government can't spend Social Security accumulations.
2. Radio listening surveys that show that Republicans listen more to news and talk shows, while Democrats prefer music channels.
3. Democrats continue to claim that Bush stole the election, when repeated investigations demonstrate a fair election. The fact that Democrats keep repeating false mantras must mean their base is soaking it in without investigation.
4. Finally, Jay Leno's street interviews with dunces are 99% with Democrats.

They (Republicans) do not know how Presidents are elected or the history of the electorial college.
I would be willing to bet that more Republicans than Democrats know how the electoral college works.
But what does any of that have to do with the question of whether or not there will be another major terrorist incident?
Not much if anything. Thanks for getting us back to the thread topic.
Since you asked...
I suspect there will be another major one or more. It's better to be prepared for the worst as best you can. You had a pretty good list of prevention activities that I generally agreed with (at least not worth arguing over). You listed it twice, but in this case, take my silence on your list as general agreement at the high level, especially about more restrictive borders and requiring identity cards.
What concerns me (and why I think another attack is inevitable) is how seemingly easy it would be to use unsophisticated means to perform some major terrorist events that would kill thousands or cause considerable repair and economic damage. I hesitate to list my speculations for fear that they might come true. Hopefully, I am just naive. Hopefully, our intelligence personnel are good enough.

not too bad
Dear Holmes,
That was not too bad. Long. Of course, I don't agree here and there, but it would be going over the same ground.
There were a few holier-than-thou personal attacks, but I understand that is your elitist liberal side coming out.
I am more comforted about you than I had originally perceived based on previous posts.
So, all I really have to say is ... last tag!

But no reasonable person would suggest that thousands of Arab men would sign up for certain death just to kill us because we don't believe the same thing as they.
You are underestimating the power of religious belief. You are also igoring what they want: Islamic-led states, like the Taliban, starting with existing Arab countries, and then beyond to all.
The suicidal terrorists believe that Allah will reward them. They are convinced that the cause of Muslim-led nations is their "fatwa". It is not just the United States, either. Ask Russia, Serbia, Indonesia, etc. where violence from Muslim extremists have nothing to do with Israel or the US. But, clearly the US and Israel are taking the main interest, at the moment, because that is a holy land for Muslims and is a unifying force among Arabs.

ok, .... holy site (and access to it)
Holmes, you are quibbling over semantics. The Muslims want the land and pilgrimage access (i.e. land, not air) to their holy sites, which happen to be on land. Maybe my strict use of the term "holy land" was inappropriate, but I thought the message would get through: Israel and Palestinians+Muslims are fighting over the same land.
From Atheism and Agnosticism
"Dome of the Rock:
Located in Jerusalem, the Dome of the Rock is a Muslim shrine which stands on the site which is traditionally believed to be the place where the first Jewish temple was built. It was also here that people believe Abraham tried to sacrifice his son to God, and where Muhammad is believed to have ascended into heaven in order to receive God's commandments.
For Muslims, then, this has become the third holiest site for pilgrimage, after Mecca and Medina. It is probably the oldest surviving example of early Islamic architecture and is modeled after the Christian Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is located nearby."
