Re: Little Feat
Lowell George was good, but do you really think he stood with Ry Cooder, Blind Willie Johnson, Taj and Dire WolfF?

Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lady Day, Blind Willie McTell, John Lee Hooker, Brownie McGhee, Leadbelly, Lightn' Hopkins, Memphis Slim and Mississippi John Hurt? Nah, don't like them much

Re: Pop music before the rock era
Down where I live Blues is the color of last weeks tamales.
But I grew up in Baltimore and actually heard the Lady sing. It was near the end of her life and yet she was still awsome. In the late fifties we'd take the train up to New York and then the subway out to Harlem. Back then, even us honkies could crash if we knew our stuff.
A little later I used to hang out at a place owned by Charley Byrd. Between sets he'd come over and talk with us every once in a while. He liked coffee, two creams no sugar IIRC. He'd pull over his twelve string and play a few riffs. It was something watching him pick with both hands. Even though it was the break and all the waiters and waitresses were hustling around shleping drinks, everyone would stop and just listen while he played.
When we started going in we were still too young to drink (DC had an 18 year old limit at the time). Soon as we turned 18 we headed back over and he bought me one of my first legal beers.
