Re: it ain't paradise over here either
cavediver, before you start lambasting the yanks bear in mind that common sense and 'stating the bleedin obvious' don't reign over here either.
Oh very true, but in the case of the 14yo/16yo you'll find the CPE does not tend to bring these to trial - if they do and the judge is awake he'll chuck it out on the precedents and guidance. I'll dig it out if I get bored tomorrow. There are certainly some who have fallen foul and have made it onto the SOR, but that is about the limit of their punishment AFAIK. And that is for 5yrs, not this lifetime bullshit over in the US.
That said, the withc-hunt is real, just led from the front by the real twats of our society: the gutter press.

Are you kidding me? I thought it is a very common knowledge that half the southern states still have some form of anti-multiracial marriage laws or other even though they don't really get enforced because of federal overrule. Heck, I think it was Kansas a couple years ago that had a referrandum on whether to take out the anti-multiracial marriage law out of the state law book or not. Guess what, the majority of the people in that state voted to keep the law in the book.
And let's not forget that the US supreme court finally declared sodomy laws unconstitutional in 2001 (the 21st century). Before that point, you could literally get imprisoned for having consensual sex with another consenting adult in your own bedroom.

Anyone care to defend this???
Yep, this poor chum got sent away for something that isn't even illegal in my state. But, then there is this guy, who was actually set free:
WordPress.com
quote:
Vander Esch pleaded guilty in 2001 to fondling teenage male employees of the Pizza Ranch in Hull after falsely persuading them to donate semen samples for a medical research project.
quote:
A month before his release, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled in a separate case that sexual abuse does not occur if a defendant deceives a victim to get consent to perform a sex act. The ruling was applied retroactively to Vander Esch.
Talk about twisted.
And the anti-gunners think the legal system will protect them

Talk about twisted.
What? No, it makes perfect sense. Lawrence Vander Esch is white. The kid in the OP is black.
See? Perfectly understandable now.

"This was not two star-crossed lovers on a date,"
With the implication that it is OK for an 18 year old and a 14 year old to have a sexual relationship just as long as their families engage in bloody street battles and they personally kill and die to preserve their relationship.
As long as fate is against the couple - statutary rape laws don't need to apply. But...but...these teens enjoyed themselves, and there was no tragic ending so we'll have to manufacturer ourselves one.

And on the topic of scary laws - Paris Hilton has been released from jail and is now under house arrest. "A medical problem." Like a "medical problem" would have got some non-heiress crack whore out of there.....

Didn't you hear? It was terminal "Princess Syndrome", a rare condition due to a coninuous indulgent and unrestricted lifestyle unencumbered by the need to actually contribute to the society in any meaningful way.

Was the girl white?
I wondered that myself, actually. You'd never know from the text of the article that any of the participants were of any race whatsoever, but once you understand that the kid is black, the disproportionate sentence goes from "WTF?" to "ah, I get it now."
I mean, the DA is all but saying that this was rape, even though there was no complaining witness and they couldn't get the guy on rape charges. (Didn't even try.) That, to me, definately suggests that we're talking about a white girl; black-on-white sexual activity is all but assumed to be rape that far south.
His denial of this being "star-crossed lovers", without saying why we should believe him when he says that, pretty much confirms it for me. He's assuming that people are going to learn we're talking about a black kid, read between the lines, and agree with him. I had no idea from what Cavediver posted but if you follow the article and see the guy's picture, it really all starts to become clear.
