Re: Incremental changes work wonders
Yup.
If you have 10 meaningful goals that you are able to achieve spread over a month, you can keep a record of this, (it really helps progress ) and you do them (or most of them), you can see what you have achieved.
This fosters a perception of (self as) one who does succeed (because you have chosen appropriate goals- such as my goal to have a smaller lunch at work) and this help raise your game when it comes to sticking with the task at hand.
The big problem with new years resloutions is they are all or nothing. They are invariably massive life changes that virtually no one could stick to and when we fail we feel like failiures and avoid further opportunities to fail.

several years ago, i found that new years resolutions were nothing but a source of trouble for me. i'd never keep to them, and it'd just make me feel like crap. like there was something about me that i needed to change.
so one year, i resolved to never again make a new years resolution.
so far, i've kept that one. and it's done wonders.
Well...here it now is 2011. A full four years later! We all are still here on Percys Forum...for better or worse, in sickness and in health!
Unlike you, I feel a need to make a list for resolution, even though Jon insists that making a list is a recipe for failure.
My 2011 List:

1) Get back on my healthy diet that I know and like so well. When I feel better, I am encouraged to stay on a healthy eating plan, but the catch 22 is that in order to feel better I need to eat better for at least two weeks to a month beforehand. Stationary Bike
2) Stop Gambling!! 4 years ago, I hedged and said that I would allow myself to gamble "a little". It was a mistake, and I now realize that my gambling is the root of many problems in my life which have a common theme. Which brings me to my next resolution......
3) Recognize the difference between fantasy and reality in everyday thinking. Take responsibility for what I do and say. Dont fall back on ideologies and dogma. Learn to face each day cheerfully and dutifully. I think 3 is enough for now.....

2012 Resolutions
#1: Health Club! Stationary Bike
Im not getting any younger, and health prevention costs a lot less than health treatment.

Re: 2012 Resolutions
Well, all I can do is try to have more fun this year than I did last year...
And get better at chess, too.

Thread necromancy!
I resolve to drink less and try to have some kids. My unsupported assertation is that I could be a good father.

The above ontological example models the zero premise to BB theory. It does so by applying the relative uniformity assumption that the alleged zero event eventually ontologically progressed from the compressed alleged sub-microscopic chaos to bloom/expand into all of the present observable order, more than it models the Biblical record evidence for the existence of Jehovah, the maximal Biblical god designer.

Moreover that view is a blatantly anti-relativistic one. I'm rather inclined to think that space being relative to time and time relative to location should make such a naive hankering to pin-point an ultimate origin of anything, an aspiration that is not even wrong.
Well, Larni, let's say I much better know what I don't want to say than how exactly say what I do.

I'm not normally a resolution maker, but this year I have given up smoking (again). Four days and counting.

Resolutions 2012
And I resolve to continue my irrational and often selfish arguments knowing full well that Jar and Ringo will respond sanely sagely and wisely and will attempt to shrink the American Ego that was my birthright. (Welcome back, Ringo)
