Should Servant be allowed that kind of behaviour?
No, of course not. But don't Lam and Percy's posts not only draw attention to that behavior, but legitimize it by giving the impression that the content and style would be fine if only he fixed a few typos?
Maybe it seems that way to me, which is why I thought Lam's post was an odd choice for POTM. No offense, Lam. Love your posts. (Fear your avatars. )

First of all, what the hell is "POTM?"
As I stated before, I believe that my post where I nitpicked servent's spelling and grammar errors was total crap. He posted a big pile of crap and I responded with a big pile of crap. I had no hidden message or metaphor.
What I posted was plain and simple nitpicking of someone's post to a degree of detail, which I have defined earlier as nothing but crap. In fact, I hate nitpickers. You can guess the rest from there.

Never mind. Just figured out what POTM is. Hadn't even notice the thread until a minute ago.

Yeah, it was mostly Ned's enthusiasm and Percy's following suit that puzzled me, you know?
I hope you don't feel picked on or something. I just thought there was some weird behavior going on from folks I thought knew better.

Hi Crash,
As Johnny Carson used to say, if you have to explain a joke, it's already not funny, so don't even try. Suffice to say that Lam's post seemed to hit exactly the right note to both me and Ned, but maybe we're weird.
If it helps, to me Servent presents an interesting conundrum because his posts contain nothing substantive on which to engage him, and his position is naive in the extreme. The goal is to get Servent to remove his fingers from his ears so he can engage in discussion instead of repeating mantras of determined faith, but how to do this is anybody's guess. So one casts about trying different things.

Gotcha. My usual technique is to call them liars to their faces. It's about as effective as I suspect your technique is likely to be.

Are you really so ignorant of basic physics that you can't even explain the concept of inertia correctly? If you can't even get such a basic concept right, a concept I learned in 9th grade at a very poor high school, how can you argue about this kind of subject?
An object at rest tends to stay at rest, unless acted upon by a force.
An object in motion tends to stay in motion in a straight line, unless acted upon by a force.
There are known forces which act between objects to repel them from each other. Obviously, if all the particles in the universe were much more concentrated than they are now, and the repellent forces were stronger than the total gravity between them, they would move apart.
It's not dumb to whine about your spelling and grammar when they're bad enough to distract an intelligent reader from the content of your post. Proper mechanics are an indication of patience, learning, and practice in communication.

No they aren't. Have you read over the discussion?
The point is your post 122 was so abysmally arrogant and ignorant that people weren't sure how to respond. That is a pretty bad combination. You have no idea what you are talking about, may lack the intellectual capacity to ever understand and started of by calling things you don't understand stupid.
Pointing out your carelessness with the language seemed as good a way as any of commenting on the quality of your post.
When you develop a shade of humility and really want to learn you can try again.

Re: Um yea w/e
ServAnt,
Although the occasional spelling error is made by everyone, you don't appear to have the foggiest notion of not just spelling, but basic syntax, either.
It just makes a person look stupid when they make quite so many errors.
Um.... are you Guys Really that dumb that you need to wine about my spelling? I mean What the Hell. Come on peeple this is not a Friking english class... And Tell Me I have a question, the Big Bang had to come from sum where Rite???? Should read:
"Um, are you guys really that dumb that you need to whine about my spelling? I mean, what the hell? Come on people, this is not a Friking (sic) English class. And tell me, I have a question; the Big Bang had to come from somewhere, right? Yes, well, where did it come from? And a certain law it says an object in motion stays in motion, but an object at rest stays at rest, so what got it moving?"
That's twenty eight errors in a single paragraph, "friking", notwithstanding.
Mark

There are 10 kinds of people in this world; those that understand binary, & those that don't

Okay You have a question.
Are you asking why the Big Bang happened when it did? It's very hard to figure out what it is you're looking for.
If that is your question, then IMHO, it was the act of GOD. But as we learn more, the act of GOD may recede even further.

Come on peeple this is not a Friking english class...
Just to add to what everybody else is telling you: Yes, this is an English class. You're being judged on your ability to communicate ideas here, just like you are everywhere else you speak.
The point of those English classes you hated to sit through wasn't to annoy or torture you. It was so that you don't sound like an idiot when you open your mouth or type words.
Mission not accomplished, I guess. If you can't even understand the utility of writing like you're an intelligent person, what hope could you have of understanding the findings of science?
