eight independent lines of evidence that link ancestral whale fossils to modern whales.
For example, morphological evidence shows a foot structure found in the ancestral fossil that is rather specific to whales, and shared only by a few other animal groups. We also see a transitioning inner ear structure that shows a gradual evolution from ancestral land mammals to marine whales, since the ear had to evolve to work better underwater.
You'll also find molecular evidence, embryological evidence, chemical evidence, etc.
The data also points to a model of how the whales evolved and why they did in that era.
