Re: Generalizations
I think that it was important for God to establish two things in the minds of us human beings.
1.) He has a legal requirement against us.
2.) He utterly hates sin and sins.
That I believe could be one reason why the gospel of John does not immediately follow the book of Genesis.
You see fallen man thinks he is quite OK. Well I mean there's a little problem here and there, but basically we are A OK.
God has to break through that to demonstrate that we are in TROUBLE - BIG TIME. We OWE the law of God a dept that is too heavy for us to pay. And His nature is that He must judge sins.
Now if it were possible for the whole human race to get together before God created the universe, and vote on what kind of Creator we'd all like to have, maybe the majority of us would say "We don't want a Being who is PERFECTION." Maybe we'd want someone a little loose and sloppy like ourselves. Maybe some would vote for no God at all!
But, we didn't have the chance to all vote on it. It is not a democracy. Now as it stands God is very merciful. Many instances in the Bible prove that to this poster if not to others. But He is Perfection. He is Holy. He is righteous. And that is something He will never give up.
I think the Old Testament had to lay a backround of the utter perfection of this Creator and His legal requirement on those who have rebelled against Him.
Upon this backround, upon this blackround, we eventually come to the gospel of John and God's designed plan to save us the conflict between our rebellion and His eternal and ultimate perfection.
