668, as you probably already know, is the neighbor of the Beast.
I thought I was the only one who fondly remembers Quebec punkers My Dog Popper, whose (to my knowledge) only album '668 - Neighbor of the Beast' was graced with John Wayne Gacy cover art and the inspiring rock anthem "I Lost My Job To A Guy Named Gino". Thanks for the memories.
Having been born on the 6th of June, year of our Lord 1966 (that's right, sinners, 6-6-66) as well as six minutes after my twin brother, I've had to bear a lot of abuse from the amateur numerologists I meet every time I have to show my ID for that rack of Harpoon Ale. I've always suspected that my brother is the evil twin, but maybe I just don't get out as much as I should.
Anyway, I think the debate over Bible prophecy is irrelevant for a number of reasons, the most important being that prophecy is only understood as such AFTER the event has come to pass. The Oracle of Delphi at least had a sense of humor: "Attack now and an empire will fall (maybe theirs, maybe yours, we'll just have to wait and see)."
What catastrophic events were ever AVOIDED due to prophetic foreknowledge? In what instances can this prophecy have been said to have INFLUENCED people's actions? Can prophecies ever be recognized as such before they have come to pass? In short, what GOOD are they?
As my evil twin once opined on this very subject: "Prophecy is useless in hindsight. If amytropic lateral sclerosis were known as Lou Gehrig's Disease before Lou Gehrig were diagnosed with it, now that would be impressive!"
